Bandrew, will you ever publish the concert? I really dig your guitar playing sections of your reviews and think a lot of people would like to see the live band performance. Cheers! 🎸

Speaking of having choosing which channel to upload a video to on KZbin. It would (in theory) be super convenient if one video could be published to multiple channels. Sometimes a video fits into multiple different channel concepts, sometimes you collaborate with others, and so forth. It would be one URL. Two (or more) channels would be listed as the publishers/owners. It would be listed on each channel as a normal video, appear on the subscriber feed to each channel, and would combine algorithmic data from each channel (whether to promote it, who to promote it to, how long to promote it). Revenue could either be split across the channels, or you'd have to make a choice as to which channel it would go to. This would probably have a number of practical difficulties which I am not aware of. But I think it would be neat. For now, a sub-par workaround is to create playlists.

I bet when a band wants to release a live album, they focus on reducing stage noise as much as possible. With in ear monitors and strategically placed microphones, you can eliminate a lot of noise bleeding into microphones. That would make mastering the performance much easier after the fact. Like the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Hey, I was listening to your take on saving money on travel, and it was a bit different from what I was expecting. I think especially when traveling internationally, this is an area I wouldn’t skimp on. Let me elaborate: So, in the first tip, you mentioned packing your own lunch. I feel like that’s more what I would do at home in the US. When traveling, I’m open to trying out all the different cuisines and foods. If I’m in Thailand, I’m trying the food there; if I’m in New York, I need to try the restaurants there. That’s part of the experience of travel. For the second tip, I kinda disagree too, but hear me out. I love traveling and whenever I travel to different countries and hotels, you get free water bottles. At first, I thought, wow, free water bottles! But then I realized there are definitely good and not-so-great water brands, even in the US. So I’m that person who figures out what the good water brands are and gets those instead of using the freebies. The third tip was interesting. I thought you were going to mention skipping hotel breakfasts to try local food, but you said you bring instant oatmeal. For me, I also skip hotel breakfast deals, but I prefer exploring local breakfast spots. Overall, I don’t skimp out on food when traveling. I save money on airfare and hotels, but food is an important part of the travel experience for me. Eating out and trying local food has been super rewarding!

I think it differs from person to person and their priorities and reasons for travel. I don’t put a lot of value on food, I accepted I gave a garbage palette. While I was on my trips, the primary thing I got enjoyment out of was seeing friends and playing music. For meals and coffee alone, I would go the cheap route. If everyone was going out, I’d tag along and get something. The enjoyment I got out of those meals wasn’t the food though, it was spending time with the people. If you’re traveling for the sole purpose of food though, which I know a lot of people do, then I know my money saving tips seem crazy or counter to the entire purpose of travel.

@@bsp Ah! That makes sense! Yip! For me food definitely is part of what makes travel so fantastic. There are places in the world that I just crave eating as there's nothing like it here in the US ^_^

In before all the other Kevins. Maybe we should form a sub-clan of the Bandrew-ists!? Certainly lots of Kevins here last week. It was good to have you back on our screens. I thought past-frugal-Bandrew was going to show us his spending control spreadsheet. I'm now just imagining you being stopped by the TSA due to suspicious outmeal in your pockets. I got to watch about ten mins of the B&H gig on KZbin last week before work. Not sure if it was live or recorded. (Later on the link I had went private). First thing I noticed was how weak their audio was, my ears have been spoiled by people like you and Tom. I think they'd mic'ed for the live in the room or something. It sounded a bit "school prize day". Then they pulled you in via zoom (thanks cloudstrike) and it was like parody-Bandrew. I reckon you and Tom could have got better sound with two tin cans and a piece of string. While some of that was zoom, the audio lag was like a 1970s kungfu dub. Think Water Margins, or similar. Also it struck me we've still never seen Bandrew and Tom in the same room. Something like that Batman and Bruce situation. Hmm.

interestingly enough, the vocal isolation algos, while solo'd do sound very artifact-y, when you mix it back into the full track, its usually way less noticeable. Someone did a test on the iZotope music rebalance where they separated the audio into vocal, drum, bass, other... solo'd they all sounded horrible, when mixed back together, the result perfectly nulled with the original full mix. I can attest to the live video not being live. I've done a few DVD's for bands over the years where its "fixed". A lot of time, there are issues with the audio (distortion, bleed, mistakes, etc.). In all of my instances, the audio was done months (or even years) later in the studio. The tone doesn't matter at all, as you have NO reference once its replaced but you usually dont make the audio sound as pristine as you would for a studio release. It takes a while to get right since a lot of times you need the vocals to be REALLY close to the original as possible timing wise. I had a band that played one of the last shows ever at CBGB's in NYC. The audio multi track from the show was horrible on DA98 tapes. The video was even worse quality, but it was what it was and the show had great energy. If you like pre distortion, tape distortion was way better. Many emulations/plugins do this well. UAD studer is awesome. Always go 24fps, its movie rate. Looks more cinematic. Everything I do (band stuff, podcasts, etc) are done at 24. Motion blur looks way better and just has a better feel imo. Most mixing videos are terrible and have really bad advice. FREE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST!? lol
