OH MY GOURD I LOVED the interlude about recalibrating! The misalignment is probably something I never even would have seen, but you saw it and knew how to fix it! And then shared it with us

Thanks so much!! A lot of faceting is being able to solve problems. Each stone is different, and finding the right combination of cutting and polishing laps is a lot of the fun! That, and figuring out how to deal with issues and problems as they arise. I love it because there's always something new to learn with each stone I cut, whether that be about the geology, process steps, or how to fix a new problem. It's definitely one of my favorite parts ❤ Thanks again for the support, I appreciate it! 😊

BEAUTIFUL! This is definitely one of my favorites 🎉 I love that you always show even the hard parts of the process and how you go about fixing it. I could watch these videos all day long 🤩 I thought putting the point in the center of the bands was super cool too, I don’t think I would’ve thought of that or considered the thought that went into it as a buyer without you having mentioned it. Amazing job ❤

Thank you so much! Problem-solving is a huge part of faceting, and it's one of my favorite aspects - it always keeps things interesting, and there's always something to be learned. I'm super happy with how the band placement came out too! It's those little details that really make a die special in my opinion. It took a bit of extra work, but it's totally worth it in the end. 😊

I chanced upon your channel a few months ago. You do lovely work and it's clear how much you care about the dice. Your information is always very appreciated. Thank you.

I'm so glad I found your videos. I've really enjoyed watching them. I first came across another content creator that does the same thing. I was able to find your website. I've been interested in taking this on, and I have so many questions. I'll be sending you an email with my questions.

at 3:40 2 things , so far i really like the lore of the mineral/ stone at the start , and even though i dont own one of these machines nor really plan too my engineering monkey brain really liked seeing about the realignment tools. also an idea to consider using cheap easy to get stones it would be interesting (at least for myself) to see how "accidental" mess ups are corrected , and even the processes of experimenting with new facets designs and even other dies besides a d20
@SageAndNettle3 ай бұрын
Yeah for sure! There's a lifetime worth of making mistakes and learning to overcome them, rather than intentionally causing setbacks. However, I think it's really important to include those in my videos, not only for educational purposes, but to show how making mistakes or having issues come up does not mean the end of the process. There's always steps you can take to overcome struggles and challenges. Though the result may not be exactly as you had hoped, with effort you can still end up on the other side (hopefully with a nice D20 also!). As for other dice, I plan on making a few sets of D6's and D12's for some other games (Daggerheart, PBTA, etc.), so keep an eye out for those in the coming months! 😊

Another beautiful piece displaying your patience, precision, and skill! Well done! One small correction, I think: I don't believe that stone is true onyx but a banded calcite, like the root beer onyx, which is why you were having the polishing issues. True onyx, which is a silicate, is typically black and white, or "sardonyx" if it's red and white. It's just called "onyx" because it sounds better than "banded calcite", and true onyx is rarer and more valuable. Still a beautiful stone!
@SageAndNettle3 ай бұрын
Ahhhh, that makes total sense!!! This is what I get for just trusting the name rather than doing my own identification, haha! Thank you for the knowledge! 😊 Now I really want to go get an *actual* piece of Onyx to cut, haha. 😂

Looks like you decided to go back to painting after removing the mask. Was it causing issues or are you just more comfortable with doing it after? Thank you for showing the misalignment and the fix. That is good info. I wouldn't have thought that the dop holder could rotate under pressure. P.S. the alignment of the meet point with the center of the bands was a really good choice.

Great question! I tried it out a few times, and while it saves a few minutes on cleanup, I lose the ability to judge the paint color vs the stone. I could try and sort out the color before hand, but I can't really get a good feel for it until its actually painted into one of the numbers. So after trying it a few times, I think it's worth the extra few minutes of clean up if It helps find the best matching paint. Thank you! 😊

Can you share what stencil cutter and vinyl you use? Beautiful work!
@SageAndNettle3 ай бұрын
My CNC machine is a Genmitsu, though any CNC machine would work. You just have to modify it to use a dragknife. I've used a few different vinyl masks, and just like the CNC machine, the particular brand doesn't really matter all that much. Pretty much any type of vinyl stencil masking should work fine. Hope this helps! 😊

What grit do you use in your sand blaster? It looks very fine and billowy!
@SageAndNettle3 ай бұрын
I use 220 grit Alumina Oxide sand blasting medium in my cabinet. 😊
@ohmusama3 ай бұрын
That is very light! It looked brighter than my silicone carbide grit. How do you like it?
@SageAndNettle3 ай бұрын
It works perfectly for what I use it for. I started with a 120, but found it was too quick to etch and caused a pretty uneven finish in some stones. So I swapped down to 220 to get a little more control and it made a pretty noticeable difference. I've been very happy with it, though I don't know how well it would hold up to tasks other than etching stone.

Beautiful, although gold doesn't compliment yellow - I know you didn't mean it literally. Perhaps red and blue would have been too garish. Supplementary of dark purple would've been nice with those colours.
@SageAndNettle3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I didn't necessarily mean it in the color theory sense. I liked the yellow color in the bands and wanted to even that out across the gray as well, and after trying a few different inks, the gold looked the best to me. Purple is definitely an interesting idea too though!😊
