We visited Banff last year and stayed in Canmore. I agree that It's a great option that's cheaper than Banff. Great tips, makes us want to return. We're from UK so the videos are really helpful.

Go to the Main Mall and head down to the food court. Saves you money.

Bus on the glacier or hike it? I feel like hiking would be a better experience. ??

While you can hike to the toe of this glacier, we do not recommend getting on the glacier without an experienced guide.

Where did you stay in Canmore?

We stayed in Banff Gate Mountain Resort. Some cabins seem more dated than others but we enjoyed our stay.

Do you know if most places in Banff take an American debit card? I don’t currently have a credit card. Will I need to get one?

Yes, they take American debit cards but there will probably be an added foreign transaction fee.

If you really want to save money, Cochrane or even Calgary can be more affordable even than Canmore...although it's definitely a bit of a drive!
