Hi guys. I just wanted to thank you for your videos. This year I did a road trip that went from SF to Tuscon stopping at Yosemite,kings & seq, Death Valley, Zion, Bryce, arches,canyonlands, monument valley, horseshoe bend and then down into tucson. In 2025 I am doing a road trip from salt lake to Grand teton , Yellowstone, Coby, deadwood, Mount Rushmore, black elk point, Custer, Coby, dodge city, Amarillo, Memphis,Nashville, Gatlinburg and the smoky mountains. Your videos have been essential in my planning for both trips and they have made it a much more enjoyable experience. Thank you so much. Steve

Love this video! Guanella is amazing. Encountered a herd of mountain goats between Divide and Cripple Creek. A ram started across the road. I stopped, annoying the car behind, but then we both got the big show of a herd crossing the road and climbing up what looked like a 90 degree embankment. I don't know how many times I've told visitors, "Hydrate hydrate hydrate." I live in Denver, and I still get the dizzies in Cripple Creek.

What a wonderful video. We are hoping to head out there in June and after watching this, I cannot wait. Maybe it was mentioned somewhere, but what month did you do this trip?

Montanan here getting ready to go to Gardiner over the Xmas holiday. Good and about only choice of restaurant in Gardiner. You can stay at the Gateway INN there and have a one bedroom apt at a decent price with full kitchen and the ONLY store in Gardiner is across the street. A good drive if you have a vehicle is to Jardine above Gardiner. Fun drive ONLY if you have at least a Subaru. There is a Nat Forest campground up there you can go into 4WD ONLY and hike around or snow shoe Xcountry... Great views up there pretty much guaranteed Elk sightings. This is an easy few hours IF YOU HAVE A VEHICLE after Breakfast. There is a nice bar at Mammoth Lodge and if you can get in the restaurant is quite good... Winter frankly is the best time. We live about 2.5 hours from there. Below zero, try 41 below... Not that unusual to see 20's below. This is the best explanation of Yellowstone in winter by "tourists" I've seen. Excellent. We can take the dogs know the "best" places. We will hit West Yellowstone in January Feb. You can rent cross country skis and at the Mammoth Lodge north entrance and a good short snowshoe hike to Undine Falls. That is just a few hours trip to and from Mammoth. One of our favs is the Petrified Tree trail. Then there is slough Creek campground great Xcountry run in the open though, wind can eat your face off sometimes. Tower Junction is great for X country as you can ski down the road for a few miles on the closed road,. Or head to Cooke City and trails back there on the east end of the park. There is the "lodge" in Cooke city with a restaurant and bar. Cooke city is likely the most isolated town in the US in winter and is a hard core snowmobile place. We generally hit the bar for a hot toddy (ONE) before heading back to Mammoth. West Yellowstone is a bit more "tourist" friendly in winter and very snow mobile oriented. A couple of very good restaurants in town, great place to shop real Southwest jewelry there. But you still have some hiking along the boundary line can even take the dogs as long as you are NOT in the park. Or you can ski into the park a ways if you want. AND, this is the cheap way to do Yellowstone in Winter. So, cheapest but fun as a tourist wantng to go into the park is to fly in rent a four wheel drive and for Gardiner stay at the Gateway Inn for an apartment do your own meals rent Xcountry skis snowshoes and drive into the park and do all the stuff I mentioned. For West Yellowstone you might be able to just take a shuttle, stay NICE at the Golden Stone motel or down to the Stagecoach Inn and everything in between. Stagecoach is actually nice in the new rooms has indoor parking or outdoor and is an original motel. Nice but a bit worn. But you can bring the dogs... Very laid back friendly. Slippery otter has a good bar for sports or the restaurant side, good food. Madison Crossing is more upscale but great food friendly and a few others... Or, you can fly into Bozeman and do the total tourist experience $$$$$$$ and go deep into the park on the big busses, stay in the lodges eat meals in the restaurants rent everything from snowmobiles to snowshoes, see the geysers and never want for anything as long as you got deep pockets. I like how you did a mix of it. That is a good choice if you got medium deep pockets. You want to snowmobile west yellowstone is the place unless you are HARD CORE Cooke city people. They have day trips with groups into the park that can be nice. Not cheap but not horrible either. Hit the discovery Center in W. Yellowstone. See Grizzlies and wolves and otters up close and personal with only a fence and/or glass between you and the animals. That is definitely worth it. Get one of the super thick sweatshirts at their gift shop. Best sweatshirts I've ever had for Montana... So, as a local those are my recommendations. For two, as a tourist, for a few days can spend as little as a thousand 1200 I'd say to five thousand or more... But don't too many of you come and mess up my experience as a local please... Some Montanans would shun me for even telling you these things. We are full. And since 2019, you can't afford to live here, heck we can't anymore.

25 years ago my parents got lost inside yellowstone park in a snow storm, luckily they were driving a brand new RV. Dad said in the morning when he got and opened the RV's door, Old Faithful went off about 200 feet or less away. Its just luck my parents parked where they did, a park ranger plowed a road so my parents RV could get out.

RE your last recommendation, would it be a mistake to try to visit all the major arches (Park Avenue, Double Arch, Delicate, Fiery Furnace, Sand Dune Arch and Devils Garden trails) in one long day starting 6:30am till dark?
@WereintheRockies2 күн бұрын
It’s probably 8-10 miles of hiking. If you move fast, it might be possible to do all but fiery furnace.

@WereintheRockies3 күн бұрын
I think it's a great idea. Crowds will be less than summer. You may encounter some snow/ice on the trails so bringing spikes to put on your shoes might be a good idea. Have fun.

Aspen is a nice mountain town, but it's over rated and over priced, catering to the rich and snobby. We prefer Steamboat Springs or Vail. They are just as nice and better priced.

How many tents do they allow on each site? We have 3 people in my group, was wondering if 3 one person tents on a site was allowed…I couldn’t find anything on the website about it.

Generally each NPS site has a 8'x8' tent pad. The Xanterra sites sometimes have larger ones. Here is a link to our article about camping in Yellowstone. It might provide some other information you need: wereintherockies.com/the-complete-guide-to-camping-at-yellowstone/

The German Autobahn has no speed limit on more than 70% of its network. The government recommends a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour (80 miles per hour) for these stretches, but drivers can go as fast as they want.

I went last year and did both canyons I agree it is very expensive . I am a photographer I would recommend going to Upper. One thing I did not like is that I kept getting pushed through . One thing we found out is the guides push for tips The group behind us kept getting family photos by the guide and they tipped him up front. I complained several times about getting pushed through. Thanks for your honest reviews

Thanks for the Video. Quick question, can I visit both Arches and Canyonlands national park with the same "Standard Entrance Pass" if I want to visit both of them within 7 days? Or I have to buy separate Standard Entrance Passes for both Arches and Canyonlands NP?
@WereintheRockies4 күн бұрын
If you have the America the Beautiful Annual Pass, it will get you into both locations. If not, you will need to pay a $30 entrance fee at each park (each pass is good for 7 days).
We live in Helena MT, and visit both Gardiner and W. Yellowstone. You can go to Cooke City across LaMar valley and that is a great trip as long as you don't slide off the road. Do NOT do this with a regular car. I've pulled a couple out over the years. Go eat at the park Mammoth hotel restaurant and there are now in the last few years a couple of good restaurants in Gardiner. We go at Xmas. If you can get in, the Xmas meal is fantastic. The bar there is really nice also after a long day of cross country skiing. Cooke city has a lodge bar that's a fun stop for a hot buttered rum. You can do a lot of in park cross country skiing snow shoeing from this entrance. It's great if you like that. We do. The other entrance West Yellowstone is closed off in winter except to the "special vehicles" and monitored snowmobile trips. But West Yellowstone has LOTS of snowmobiling. It also has a few good restaurants and is a bit more tourist friendly than Gardiner. Frankly winter is our favorite season. We've seen the wolves, buffalo and lots of interesting things in winter. Very beautiful and quiet vs tourist hell in the summer which we avoid like the plague.

When I went , I was swimming in the wave pool and the water flipped me over and waves kept coming and I couldn’t breathe and random people who were swimming had to save me. Also my sister was in the wave pool and water went deep into her ear and it hurt super bad for a while and now she can barley hear from that ear (I was 9 when this happened)
