The broadcaster on the game was right when he mentioned Italy lack a forward with quality they have had from the past. Yes the u17 and u19 teams have won the Euros, so there is some hope. But Italy are on the verge of an entire generation of kids who have never seen their national team in the World Cup and it’s disheartening. The only one who looked interested in going forward was Chiesa. If it weren’t for Gio in goal it would be 5-0. They turned the ball over 100 times. Unacceptable 😤🤬😡

Tbf the Swiss Gegenpressen seems like the best in the tournament with Austria and that playstyle makes any team look bad. I was surprised how weak Scamacca was. You need a strong offense to get past Alamo and Scammaca wasn’t even as strong as a way smaller Niklas Füllkrug…

There is a structural problem within Italian futball and until the FIGC and Seria A and governance make changes Italy will remain second rate now. Switzerland played very well and deserved. This coming from an Azzurri supporter.

Awful. This is the worse I've seen Italy play. Spalletti isn't good enough at this level either. 10 mins in and you could see the players look lost and needed some inspiration from somewhere.

I agree. But I don’t think it’s just that they played poorly. I think these players are just not very good. They can’t pass well. They can’t control the ball well. They can’t shoot well (Zacagni’s goal against Croatia notwithstanding). And with the exception of Chiesa, not a single one of them hustled.

@@maldini3184 We always Had foreign players, I remember Gren Nord Lied the trio Swedese, Jepson that Lauro bought from Atalanta for 106 million lira, but the majority of players were Italians. Inter has two Italian players out of 11, that is wrong, how can we expect new home grown talent to flourish?

Horrible Italy. A total devolution compared to what we saw in the last Euros, under Mancini's stewardship. The Italian men looked as if they were eager to go on vacation more than fight for the next round. No pressing, no organization, no cohesion, no determination, no fighting spirit. Donnarumma the only one who showed up. My compliments to Switzerland. I don't believe they're stronger than Italy taken 1 vs 1, but they're a real modern team, with tenacious pressing, great overall organization, good possession, and bright offensive ideas. What impressed me the most were the midfielders able to work between the lines and punish the adversary.

DACH is proving the dominance of counter pressing (gegenpressen) with above average quality teams.Switzerland and Austria specifically are dangerous because they won’t even let you build your tactic and formation, by forcing mistakes through organised room closing. Scotland and Hungary failed with that approach, but the slightly higher quality Swiss and Austrian squads are very dangerous in this way. Especially Austria, with the inventor of that tactic in Rangnik. Maybe this Euros is the death of counter teams compared to high press tactics.

Do you realize 70% of that winning 2021 team has gone? Only Donnaruma, Barella and a few more. The vast majority are inexperienced and subpar quality not world class. ​@@misterlexx2721 That's not accurate. There are at least 10 players in the current roster that were selected for the last Euros. Excuses, excuses. The talent in their team was enough to get past the Swiss. They have capable players, often underestimated, and even more that were injured or not selected due to suspensions (TonalI). Italy has plenty of unexpressed talent. Every summer, Premier League teams go shop in Italy. It's their organization and mentality that did them in. Spalletti did a poor job overall and they're out.
