I know this one was mostly focused on the death/doom side with some shoutouts to the osdm and experimental death scenes but Finland also knows how to do melodeath better than most of the world: Omnium Gatherum, Insomnium, Mors Principium Est, Kalmah, Wolfheart, Wintersun, Whispered, and Children of Bodom. The melodeath/doom microgenre also has some stalwarts here from Swallow The Sun, Hanging Garden, Ghost Brigade, and Barren Earth.

An interesting thing about Finnish DM is that it seems like the most influential bands from the 80s / 90s either dropped a few demos and EPs and like 1 album (Rippikoulu, Abhorrence, Funebre), or they had long careers where they eventually changed their style completely (Convulse, Amorphis, Sentenced). Almost nothing in between. Except for bands like Xysma, who had a short career but went weird and experimental right off the bat. I love this episode, and the fact that Finnish death metal is finally getting the recognition Swedish death metal has had for years.

From newer releases I would shout out Only Ashes Remain by Sepulchral Curse. Some classic finish Death Metal with some Black Meal and melodic touches. Other than that I think Demilich is just classic. Till this day one of the craziest Death Metal albums I've heard. Obviously because of these absolutely disgusting vocals which I just cant fathom. Just want to say: Demigod reigns supreme!!!!!!..... crushes all Finnish death metal even to today ... and with all the better technology now existing. They were just kids...the sound was perfect too. These new bands have much worse audio than the original bands....The labels aren't investing nearly as much into achieving quality recordings anymore. Original Demigod, Sentenced, Mordicus still are the best sounding releases from Finland. Also fwiw, Funebre out-riff pretty much anyone else in this video, even Demilich (count the riffs!)

I think Convulse First was good but Second was trash... That time when I started a band whit Janne T it was first Morbidion, then after that He started Tomb, and I joined in, then it became Eight Gate, it was a time of Death involved in a lighter way and so was Eight Gate demo, just a poem was, only one harder song, like Sentenced Amok was more than lighter, and Amorphis tales from 1000 Lakes, the edge of Death was gone from Finnish Death, that is why We did start whit Ville P Raven Dusk, and I was after that only Black Metal man, cause Finnish DM was gone more pop-rock way... I am an extremist... As I am now...
