Awesome video. Only one big oversight, I think. Someone else mentioned the band Obliveon and their album "Nemesis." I would add their album "From This Day Forward." It was released in 1990, so they were arguably even ahead of Death in terms of incorporation of technical and progressive elements into their music. One of the most truly underrated bands.

As far as I'm concerned, even their groovier industrial tinged albums are fantastic. Better than most others in the same style. They really had a feel for grounded yet hypnotic and flowing rhythms and harmonies.

Awesome episode and none could have done it better then Brad! "None so vile" will forever be the best album ever made for me. It is perfect from start to finish. One thing that really boggles me is how First Fragment didn't get a spotlight. "Dasein" is one of the best albums that came out in the last 3 years. Anyway, great picks - have to check out that Augury album, I thought "The illusive golden age" was a bit unmemorable, but maybe it just needs a few more spins.

Thanks for the kind words! They were in contention for it, but I ended up not choosing them for one of the five spots.

Gorguts - Obscura I don't think has any tremolo picking which is crazy for how heavy and blistering it is. It blew me away when I first heard it, still rips. Blast beats with slow and mid-paced guitar riffs. 👌 Side-note, tech metal fans should check out Creation is Crucifixion. No longer active but they did some great stuff. P.S.: Lykathea Aflame - similar to Cryptopsy but they played in major keys a lot, which is really weird and interesting.

Respect for that Galy shoutout! The only band missing in my opinion would be Atheretic with again Dominic Forest and Alex Leblanc from Neuraxis. Probably the most brutal tech death MTL ever offered.

Rad label. Such a good jumping spot for these bands to launch their careers. Absolutely crucial. Of course Dominic is in that band...because he's in every band.

Haha thanks Howard! Can't say I don't usually like Howards because I don't know any, but you're definitely my favourite Howard - duck or otherwise.

Just a quick correction; the bassist in Sutrah does NOT play live in Chthe'ilist; he plays live in RGRSS. The Chthe'ilist bassist Antoine is a full time contributing member of the band. Thanks for the awesome review!

My apologies! I guess in my flurry of members I mixed that up. I think that I saw on Metallum that you have played bass in Chthe'ilist (in the past?) and mucked 'er up. Thanks for watching and the clarification!

@@AggressiveTendencies No worries! I recorded a couple of songs on bass for the full length yeah.

I'm from quebec and i got a few intetesting book about our scene. We have like a shitload of musician here who are fans of progressive rock music, voivoid member where like big fans of stuff like Rush, pink floys, ect ect... and god know how influencial they were in our province so of course, its no wonder that it would influence our death metal sound as well..

Obliveon is a very important missing link in the video. I know they are mentioned, but From this day forward -1990 and Nemesis -1993. Huge influence, 10 years before Martyr, the link between them and Voivod kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2fJknuQiLprqdU

Great show, great video! As always this dude delivers. So apparently archspire aren't from Quebec, are they? But they are Canadian, right? And may I suggest the topic of Russian folk? Either the pagan kind like the great Arkona or the middle eastern kind. It's mind boggling to hear all these Slavic nerds play this kind of Arabian nights metal
