One of the cheapest ways to travel in Thailand is by train. It is a bit slower but fun to see the countryside. Another popular trip is to take it from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. If you want to see how to take this trip here is the video. Bangkok’s Bang Sue station to Historic Ayutthaya by train 2022 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJvLfquhp5mchJY

Nice to see this thanks. 2 quick suggestions are to give longer view of maps you showed at the begiining and when you mention a town cut to a view of the maps just to help the view visualize the trip on the map.

Thanks for watching and appreciate the suggestions. I sometimes forget that not everyone knows each of the towns I talk about. I can do a picture in a picture when I edit it in the future. I always worry that my videos are too long but a few more seconds won’t hurt anything.

Stumbled upon this excellent video. I've booked to go to Thailand in October but would love to know your thoughts on public transport in terms of how busy/packed it gets. From this video, it does seem like you can still grab yourself a decent seat at the Thonburi station? I hear the MRT and the BTS can get really busy? Wanted to know how hard it is to travel with luggage.
@endlessjourneytravels
@endlessjourneytravels Жыл бұрын
When you are in Bangkok using the BTS or MRT if is very crowded during peak times in the morning and afternoon. Also if it’s raining both will be completely jammed and having a suitcase is a bit more of a challenge. With that said I’ve had big bags and used them at this time. It’s not as much fun but doable. To get to thonburi ststion you will need to take a taxi. That is the only time in probably 8 or 9 years that I’ve taken a taxi so public transportation is generally not an issue. I hope this helps and thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video. You will have a great time in October. The weather should be nice since it’s out of the rainy season.

@@endlessjourneytravels You've earned yourself a subscriber! Going to share with my family. My hotel looks like it's going to be next to Jaran Sanitwong (from my understanding, the 2nd stop of the Death Railway). How crowded does that train get compared to BTS/MRT? Less bad? And how would you buy a ticket on the train? Is it like that woman did? You buy it from the hole-puncher? LOL
@endlessjourneytravels
@endlessjourneytravels Жыл бұрын
@@CanadianFinanceSimplified I see where your hotel is. Good location for catching the train. You can buy a ticket on the train or from the ticket window at the station. You won’t have to go to Thonburi station unless you want to. I’m always worried about getting my ticket so I always show up early and buy from the window. I think sales start 2 hours before the train schedule on this route. A good app to use is SRT Timetable. It has an English interface and can check times, routes, seating and prices. For the death railway it’s 100 baht for non Thais I believe. It’s generally not over crowded and you shouldn’t have any issues. I was looking at a map and you will be near the Sala Nam Yen Market. It’s within walking distance of your hotel. I think it’s open in the afternoons so before you head to Kanchantaburi would be a nice stop to try out some of the Thai food. I hope this helps and appreciate the subscription. :) take a look at my Kanchantaburi playlist. I’ve done many videos from that area and might give you some ideas of things to see and do. I know going to a new place can be a lot of information all at once and with all of the Thai names it can be even more so but this will be an easy and fun trip for you guys. If you have issues with the train there is also the bus which runs about every hour (I usually do the train one way and then the bus to come back).

I’ve never bought this ticket in advance. I would just show up at the station and get it then. Are you planning on going all the way to the waterfall or just to Kanchantaburi? The train ride all the way to the waterfall is a lot of fun. Enjoy the trip! Kanchantaburi is probably my favorite part of Thailand. I always rent a motorcycle so I can explore the whole area.

@@endlessjourneytravels thank you for your response, we’re planning on staying for 2 days to explore Kanchanaburi and we’re going with our 2 boys both under 12 so the motorbike won’t do for us. Any recommendations for places to see? And where to book for a hotel that will be centrally located? And is it easy to get a tour driver that will take us to the places we want to see?
@endlessjourneytravels
@endlessjourneytravels Жыл бұрын
@@belulama9330 ya with the young boys it will make it a bit tough to load everyone on a motorcycle. Lol When you book a room most everything is right on the river. It’s a short walk from the train station to where everything is at. If you have a lot of luggage and don’t want to walk in the heat or rain you can hire the songlor (the motorcycle with the side car where everyone sits). The drivers hang out around places like the bus and train stations. The cost is pretty cheap. Must see things are the bridge and cemetery. There is the sky walk on the river, river cruises, temples and the old town night market. The night market is only open Friday and Saturday night I think. That was the case last time I was there anyways. From there things are a bit more spread out. The waterfalls are things I would recommend but erawan and Nam Tok Yai are about 30-45 minutes out of town. The death railway is also something you should see if you can. Hellfire pass and the wooden bridge are worth a visit. If you do the train to the terminal station at nam tok waterfall you will see most of it but hellfire pass requires transportation there with a bit of a hike to the railway. There is a museum and other stuff to see. It’s also out of town about an hour. There are other things to see it just depends on what you are interested in. Transportation is something I’ve never done. I’ve always either drove a car or rented a motorcycle so I’m not familiar with hiring out a van or something else to get around. I’m sure there are lots of options and probably the hotel would know more about it than I do. I’m sorry I don’t know more about that. I hope that helps. When you book the hotel I always use agoda.com. They have a map feature when you look for a room that makes it easy. The restaurants and all of that are along the river also so you won’t have any issues with food if you stay close to the bridge. There are several museums to see also that do a nice job presenting the war and building of the railway. Enjoy your trip!

@endlessjourneytravels Жыл бұрын
It’s kinda weird how the train station comes up. Some maps it’s Thonburi and others it’s Thon Buri. I can’t share a link to it through google but the market that is built into the station I can. Here is the link for it. maps.google.com?q=Rotfai%20Thonburi%20Market,%20Soi%20Nikhom%20Banphak%20Rotfai%20Thon%20Buri%205%20,%20Sirirat%20,%20Bangkok%20Noi%20,%20Bangkok,%2010700&ftid=0x30e29998aea07197:0xfd442dde7f48cdfd&hl=en-US&gl=us&entry=gps&lucs=,47071704 There are other stops along the way. It depends on which train you get on. The express trains will skip a few stops while the ordinary stops at each station. The time difference isn’t enough to worry about. The last stop will be the waterfall at the end of the line. In Kanchantaburi it stops at the train station and again at the bridge. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.

@ if you are at Ratchatewi it’s easy. You are on the light green line BTS. Just take it north to Mo Chit. You exit the station and go down to the blue MRT line. The station name there is Chatuchak. Get on the line going towards Tha Phra. You will go 9 stations to Bang Khun Non. From there it’s about a 15 minute walk to Thon Buri Railway Station. It sounds like a lot but it’s really not too difficult. You could always take a taxi from Mo Chit to the Railway station for 60-100 Baht. I hope this helps.
