Bhutan Food and Travel Guide - Day 1: My wife and I flew from Bangkok to Paro, Bhutan on Druk Air. We landed in Paro, and it was about an hour taxi ride to get to Thimphu, which is the largest city in Bhutan, and where we were going to base ourselves.
After getting settled into the My Bhutan house, we headed out to the Thimphu Farmers Market, a local produce market.
Bhutanese food lunch at Kalden Restaurant - For my first ever Bhutanese food meal, we headed over to Kalden Restaurant, a local restaurant in Thimphu. We ordered ema-datse, which is the Bhutanese food national dish of chilies and cheese, plus a number of other cheese dishes, which we ate over rice. It was an amazing first Bhutanese meal.
Indian vegetarian food dinner at New Grand Restaurant - We ordered a spread of dishes including aloo ghobi, and one of my personal favorite, chili paneer.
It was an amazing first day, flying from Bangkok to Paro, Bhutan, and then on to Thimphu. I was blown away by my first Bhutanese food meal!
Disclosure:
It was an honor to be invited by MyBhutan to visit Bhutan to explore Bhutanese food and culture. Thank you to MyBhutan Productions for making my trip and this video possible!

Thank you for your patience - the long awaited Bhutan food and travel video series has finally been approved! There are a total of 20 videos. I will be publishing a new Bhutan video on Sunday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, until the end of the series (so 4 videos per week). Stay tuned for Bhutanese food, culture, amazing people and natural scenery. MORE BACKGROUND INFO: Just to let you know, these Bhutan videos were filmed at the end of 2015, but due to my visiting conditions, the videos needed to be approved before I could post them. It took a little longer than expected, but they are approved now. If you watch this entire Bhutan video series, I think it will give you an exciting glimpse into the amazing traditions, food, and culture of Bhutan. Thank you for watching, and after this Bhutan video series, I have some really exciting food videos coming your way!

Love your video on Bhutan Mark. I'm from Sabah,North Borneo. Your video on Bhutan is an eye opener for me. You should make videos on less familiar countries like Tibet, Laos or even your childhood place, Kenya. Love your videos, Mark! Looking forward to your next video. Keep up the good work!

Mark. I had the chance to live in Bhutan for 4 years till 1997 and never had the chance to go back. When you had said a year and a half ago that you would do your Bhutan series, I stayed glued for any updates and thought you had shelved the project altogether. But seeing this brings back such good memories, the warmth of the Bhutanese people and God. Would I do anything to try out some original ema datsi! It's great you put this out. Thanks alot :)

I've been to Bhutan twice, for about a month each time. Your video just got me reminiscing. Paro is where I stayed at the Air Force base, right next to the runway. Breathtakingly beautiful + the food gets me drooling always. :)

Wow, everything seems so peaceful and calm. Even the traffic was just gliding by without beeping. It seems surreal there!

Watching this for the second time. Last time I saw your Bhutan series was when we were actually visiting Bhutan in 2017 and got a lot of insights about Bhutanese food and ended up trying some of the foods too. They were delicious like emadatshe and samudatshe. Anyways watching all these videos all over again makes everything very nostalgic ❤️

Mark, I had a car accident n I had to undergo spine surgery and when I was at hospital I was following your videos. Now that I came to this one it just made my day. If you come back again to Bhutan please do let me know. I wanted to meet you once. You seem to be really simple with everything. Oh I forgot to say I am Bhutanese

Wow! Bhutan seems so serene. Definitely worth visiting some day. And I love the fact that Mark loves chillies! As a Sri Lankan I can definitely relate to that, and I tend to overuse chilli whenever I cook.
