Yes, very special indeed. You can clearly see when Amira's mind snaps 'in and out' the song: she 'lives' the song/the aria she sings and is able to convey the emotions to the audience. In her early years performing, she did go into 'performance mode' and closed her eyes, and at the end of the performance she would open her eyes and turn back into a 10-11 year old smiling child. That shows in the early HGT three performances, and some of her early pre-concert performances. By the time she was doing the Classics is Groot in South Africa she no longer closed her eyes, and had great audience presence. Check out her duets: Ave Maria in Iceland; and O Sole Mio in concert with Patricio Buanne; the Flower Duets in So Africa performances.

As a Brit living in S. FL, I somehow 'found' Amira immediately after her first appearance on Holland's got talent at age 9! Since then have been singing her praises to anyone who will listen ever since! I LOVE your reaction to her. She is beautiful, her voice is incredible, as is her heart, intellect and intelligence! In SA shortly after arriving there from Holland with her Mother, she began creating playgrounds for disadvantaged children for play and intellectual stimulation, and by now has created many. It's so great to see how many coaches and others now see and appreciate Amira.

I live in Holland so I had the great pleasure of watching Amira on Holland's Got Talent. She captured the attention of the whole country. She was invited to guest at this Christmas concert by the Nijmegan choir, and there are about half a dozen videos of her singing carols there, a couple with the choir. The other performances are good, even exceptional for an 11 year old, but they are not quite as mind blowing as this example. Sancta Maria is probably second best, music by Mascagni. Her repertoire also included, oh holy night, Stille Nacht, Panis Angelicus, and See amid the winters snow. So she sang in about four different languages, and she sold cakes that she'd made with Fincent, to raise money for her charity. Must have been a fantastic event to attend.

Her second CD she recorded before this concert includes the above mentioned songs. As preparations for the CD Sony engaged one of their best classical vocal caches Henny for her. But her live concerts are different level and more alive compared with her controlled and modest CD recording. And her live performance O Holy Night from Royal Albert should not be missed.

Thank >you< for your insights. *No one I've heard equals (let alone surpasses) Amira in Gomez's Ave Maria.* I've listened to a dozen+ performances, incl. world class sopranos, and not one brings the gentle fire and finesse of musicianship AND heart to this lovely hymn by Gomez that Amira does. Her voice is genuinely beautiful, yet >what she does with it< blows me away, eg. her breath control is so fine tuned! (I'm not a singer; but I played, studied classical piano for 10 years, so I have an understanding of the subtleties of musical phrasing, dynamics, etc.) Seriously, I can't imagine the piano or ANY musical instrument doing any justice to this piece by Gomez the way that Amira brings it to life with her voice… and especially the subtleties of her rendition. ✨So beautiful… peace- and spirit-filling… and gently inspiring.

It is amusing that at about 6:38 Vincent points to his mother with his wand pointing out a small boo-boo she made on the register. LOL I have said over and over again that she has a natural gift from God. Who else do you know who has ever had such control, range, awareness, etc at nine years old. It is incredible. I do not believe Callas or any other had such a gift at that age. At this point she is most likely a lyric soprano but what a soprano at any age.

Since you remarked about British cellist Jacqueline du Pre's pure young talent. I have to mention Alma Deutscher, she is extremely gifted having started learning to play piano at age 2 and violin at age 3. She was giving concerts at an early age but that is just the start of her talent. She also composes her own music and writes for each instrument. She played piano for Amira when she was young where they both sang. She is very special lot of interesting videos of her on uTube.

We are all very suprised, and moved by her singing and emotion, but we are not the only ones it would seem. Look at the reaction of Amira's Mother, one who knows her and her singing ability well, at first she seems suprised, then concerned, and then in awe of her daughter. As one may imagine Mary's reaction to her son Jesus. A fanciful statement perhaps, but this is almost a spiritual performance.

I really enjoyed your reaction, one of the best I ever heard about Amira. It was her masterpiece indeed. Now Miss Willighagen has just begun a BMus curriculum in Pretoria. Maybe not quite the same prestige as London, Salzburg or New York, but (as far as I understand) university music studies remain one of the best ways to improve vocal technique and musical culture, and correct the little flaws.

Re: "Divinely inspired" - Amira is singing the Hail Mary in the Catholic Church in her hometown dedicated to St.Peter Canisius (also from the same small town in the Neterlands) - and he, this saint, is credited with completing the words of the second half of the Hail Mary prayer. So, yes, I think you are correct that something supernatural is occuring. Certainly Amira's singing is "out of this world". You can see her come back to this world that the rest of us are in, at the very end of the song. p.s. I haven't seen Amira be able to do this anymore, immerse herself so completely in the music that she becomes the song.

I do think this 'Ave Maria' performance was one of those special moments in time! Children can connect to the unconscious universe much easier than adults. They are still relatively undisturbed by the world around them. That comes later in life, not just with puberty (raging hormones!) but with the difficulties that are thrust upon us as adults. Also, I would venture that children are more connected to their past lives too. I know this from the time I spend with my nephew who has spoken English fluently since the age of three. Can't really explain how! He's six now and there's no question ours is a karmic relationship. I just hope it doesn't fade as he gets older.
