The’re using a lot of bamboo as building material, even for a road sign as at 3:43. A lot cheaper than rusting steel. Very interesting , and educational video, without stupid narration, just self explanatory.

What amazes me most is how happy and engaged everyone seems to be in such chaotic squalor. If the west was to descend to that level most people would die.
@blackthorne578 жыл бұрын
It proves that money and expensive possessions do not always create happiness.The children are clean, well behaved and always smiling. Education is also greatly valued unlike in the UK.

hello bun: What amazed me most, when I was there, was not the material things. It was the love of family. Something we have lost ALL over the CIVILIZED world. The love of family predominated everything else. I wish we could instill that to everyone.

@@blackthorne57, Aside from the mind boggling population density of Bangladesh, my concern is with the value of life in the work place. Your excellent videos captured some of the industrial infrastructure (ship breaking/building). It truly reveals the lack of company/employee safety measures for such heavy duty work.

Absolutely awesome footage. I have watched all your Bangladesh videos and the steam locomotives in China at the steel works. Great stuff. I imagine that I am there filming these adventures for my KZbin channel Train Lord. Thanks for posting.

The rice mill is of special interest to me. You show firing the boiler so I can only assume they were using a stationary steam engine as we have seen in West Bengal, Burma and Thailand. Did you record what type it was. Most likely it will have been built by Marshalls of Gainsborough.
@blackthorne579 жыл бұрын
+Rob Dickinson Sadly the rice mill was not using a stationary steam engine. The furnace was used to produce steam for part of the milling process. Paddy can be milled raw or par-boiled. The heat was also used for drying. Sadly no steam engine but we did ask.

What is the background to these excellent videos? Why and how?
@blackthorne577 жыл бұрын
Why: I am an amateur film maker interested in overseas travel and railways. My interest in railways enables me to visit places not frequented by conventional tourists. How: My Bangladesh videos were shot on a visit made with a group specialising in railway photography and video (Farrail Tours for more information).

'Non-Smoking Airline'. :) These are great!
@robinswamidasan6 жыл бұрын
Mark T., Your remark may be in jest, but as the authors says, this is an ad for a cement company, not an airline. Fly ash is a by-product of coal-fired cement plants (and other coal-fired plants). It is a pollutant, so these days it cannot be discarded. It can be used for cinder blocks, as a filler in concrete, in asphalt paving, etc.. I guess the cement manufacturer finds it cheaper to give away for free. It does show some level of environmental concern in Bangladesh.

@blackthorne574 жыл бұрын
Indian Eastern Railways is in West Bengal. Before independence and partition, the area occupied by Bangladesh was called East Bengal. The two areas are adjacent, that is why they look so similar.

Is the air always polluted in Bangladesh ?
@blackthorne578 жыл бұрын
Bangladesh has very little air pollution. The mist/fog visible in this video was the result of a very low air temperature. For several days the thermometer hovered around +3 degrees C with cold air sweeping down from the Himalayas. This cause much distress to the local population who are not used to these conditions. Look at the way most of the people are wrapped up to try to keep warm.

Yes, it was less than 10 degrees Centigrade for the first few days of our visit. At one tine it was just 3 degrees C.That was the cause of the fog . Bangladesh is not usually that cold1
