We have continuing education requirements to maintain our licenses. Years ago, I learned a new focus on the importance of keeping the patient warm . We had been keeping areas cool for our comfort, namely the OR. However, slightly raising the temperature in this area of patient care was found to calm their patient. Without this added stressor the patient got well quicker. I notice patients uncovered often in trauma. I will fold a warm blanket in half and cover 'stabIe' areas for comfort. I understand the need to be able to assess and have access to your patient, however, this one small thing can positively impact patient outcomes.

My cousin got hit in the face with a golf club as a child and was very lucky he walked away with a cheek-bone fracture and no brain damage. Like this, a freak accident and absolutely no malicious intent behind it, but something like this can absolutely ruin lives. I took a golf ball to my head about half an inch dead center above the eyes. Not a good day. Doc said thats the hardest thickest part of the skull, and an inch lower we wouldnt be having this conversation. Massive headache for a couple of weeks, a lot of stitches and couldnt put my contact lenses in for awhile. The nose was bruised and had alot of swelling in the immediate area of impact. Glad to see that John made a good recovery. 👍

Hi I'm not even sure if this could happen as a result of what happened to you but when you mentioned your contacts it prompted me to message you. My husband hit a friend with a golf ball quite some time passed and his friend started to suffer from a detached retina. I only ask you to look up the signs for it and watch for those symptoms and get immediate help if needed. On a funny note do your know the difference between a golf ball and a G spot? My brother was having a bad round and in his frustration he broke his golf club. While slamming it into the golf cart the fiberglass shaft stabbed him in the forearm deeply. Having some field triage experience I told him not to pull it out and he ignored me. So, I used a shoe string to create a tourniquet and we rushed to the ER. It was a sobering moment for him. Had that shaft hit him in the chest he would've been killed.

Yeah I have actually been to courses where they have signs on the windshield of the carts that “the windshield is not shatter proof and does not automatically protect from golf balls or other projectiles” and you know the “other projectiles” part is because people have hit the windshields with clubs.

I was a patient transporter at a hospital, had an ICU job I picked up to take a critical patient to get a Cat Scan😂, the lady we were transporting to CT was not doing good at all, on the way out of CT the nurses realized she was bleeding out into her extremities, one of the nurses was literally sitting on her to try to cut off the blood supply to her main artery in her leg and we needed to start CPR. I was running backwards with this team to make sure we made it to the OR in time to save her life. It did not work out the way I was hoping and I found out she didn’t make it the next day. One of the big things that made me really appreciate working in the healthcare field. Seven and a half years. And I miss it after I’ve left.

The trauma team is already set up, IV’s, IV Meds, checks crash carts, gets portable EKG monitor ready and pads and wires ready. Amazing. They give their incoming call at 15-17 minutes out. Gives trauma team to get ready. Hear in the USA the call is made 5-3 minutes out from the ER.

The handsome Iranian doctor has quite a sad look in his eyes, it impressed me. Another thing that impressed me was the love shown by those sons to their father, being with him, always attentive to what the doctrors were saying and doing, touching him lovingly all the time, nice to see this in an age were so many children don't give a damn for their parents once they leave the home.

That won't happen until Americans shake off their brainwashing (i.e. that "socialized medicine" is Communism and therefore has horns and a tail) and vote for people who actually care about them, instead of constantly voting against their own interests. The U.S. is seriously weird.

Not disagreeing for this one its just some times something minor can be real bad

Just a little bit over 6 years ago that I had torn a ligament in my right ankle that was a really bad sprained ankle. My ankle was swollen and bruised everywhere on that ankle, heel, parts of the foot, and 3 toes. I wore the boot a couple of weeks back then. I used a walker that helped me walk around for a few months in distance walking. I can walked for shorter distances. I have that walker just after my surgery of removing my appendix in July 2016. I didn’t really need it. I wanted my father to used it for walking. He never did. I know what the elderly woman was going through.

This golf club accident is a good reminder for those of us who throw our racquets after a bad racquetball shot. I admit I am guilty of this.🙁 When I was in my 20s I knew a woman who was a bit older and who worked as a substitute teacher for first-graders. One day, during a softball game, she got hit in the face with a baseball bat. I’m not sure if the bat caught her in mid-air, or if the batter child actually connected with her, but, boy, she was a mess. The injury was primarily to her mouth and teeth, many of which she lost. I felt sooo bad for her, she suffered terribly and had to constantly use painkillers. I’ll never know what the upshot of this was because we lost track of each other, but I always hoped she was able to move past this ordeal and have a successful life. Very sweet and kind person.

My 7 year old daughter was struck in the head with a golf club in 2007. My sister was watching my kids while I was at work and they were outside playing with a ball and a golf club. As my son went to hit the ball with the club, my daughter bent down to pick it up and instead of the ball he hit her head. He was 10 years old. She lost consciousness and they flew her by helicopter from the scene to children's hospital where she had to have surgery because the golf club had pushed a half dollar sized piece of her skull into her brain. Luckily she didn't have any lasting issues. She had what they believe was one seizure after the surgery and had to wear a protective helmet for a year afterwards to protect the area but fully recovered.
