I don't know why he stepped down either. The only thing I can think is that this was 20 yrs ago and he probably didn't consider other alternatives. The mayor of Toronto stepped down recently, after it was discovered that he had an affair with a 31 yr old staffer. He was 68, married and he was her boss. I saw something where it was described as a "power differential". He had just been reelected 4 months before.

My ex husband cheated too and I immediately kicked him out. I couldn't face him again as soon as I found out. (he was cheating with a woman not a man.)
