With the gatherers hut I believe its the Age of the trees that really make a difference, not just the amount. (didn't see the end of the vid if you covered this!). Great info on fishing huts :-)
@ZombieCleo10 жыл бұрын
Apparently it's if they're mature or not, but I wasn't cutting them down so the value should have gone up year or year instead of down so I think it actually has a lot to do with spawning space. Oh, and yeah, people don't see much value in fishing huts
@EthanA409 жыл бұрын
You can also increase the production by putting houses and storage areas by the work places because they spend a lot less time walking around and more time working. Very helpful video I will defiantly use this.

I've found that once a pasture reaches max capacity, a single herdsman can manage the whole lot. I usually get 800-1200 mutton or beef per worker this way, which works nicely if you need the labor elsewhere. The only downside to pastures is that they produce zero food until they reach max capacity.
@TJWaddle173 жыл бұрын
If you make a farm 8x15, game will tell you to use 3 farmers, but ignore that. 1 worker can usually harvest it all, and it will yield 840 food most years. Even on years where you get an early frost, you still get at least 5 or 600, making it the most efficient food per worker by far. And that's also 7 food per square. Alternatively, you can make a field 12x10, with 1 farmer, and you get the same results. Farms should only ever be 1 of those 2 shapes to maximize efficiency. You can do max farm size 15x15 with 2 workers, and it's still pretty good, about 750 food per worker. But 12x10 or 8x15 is best.

Thanks this video was very helpful, every time i make a new city i always go overblown by putting farms and pastures quite early in the game. This video helped me realize how effective gatherer's, fisherman and hunting huts in getting food.
@TheSandalion8 жыл бұрын
Great video, thanks for these very helpful calcs. Liked. I've always built forest nodes containing gatherer, hunter, barn, 5x6 stockpile, forester, lumberjack and lastly roads! Some people also put in 5-6 houses. Definitely need to do some math about it because I've always wondered about the effieciency of said layout. Surely it'll be less than a dedicated space for only one of those resource production buildings, but I got a feeling that it's still better to have a such a conglomerate, as production doesn't seem to be much lower than that of a isolated building. Don't know if you're still playing Banished but you definitely should download its mods and expansions which greatly increase and truly complete the gaming experience.

I know I’m 4 years late but in case you wanna pick the game back up, I will share what I have noticed in my own saves. You need a forester lodge, gatherers hut, hunting cabin, and herbalist together, I usually place houses, storage barn, stockpile, and wood cutter just out of range and a market right beside those things. They all work together very well. I have mine set to 3 hunters, 2 foresters, and 1 herbalist. This keeps my trees steady, but not overgrown, which takes up very valuable spawning squares. Animals are attracted to the forgeables, so you want quite a few and for them to be slowly collected throughout the year, not all at once. If you don’t have a herbalist, herbs will take up a lot of spawning squares over time. You’ll probably end up with quite the excess of herbs, which is good for trading especially early on, or even later for a little padding. However, that’s just what I’ve noticed, later down the road I want to run some tests of my own.

Actually, from my experience,, you can have one person working the maximum size pasture with approximately the same efficiency. (I've also read you can work 11*11 farm field with just one worker and get the max out of it, but it didn't prove to be right in my playthrough, even if the houses and barns were close to the field). As for gatherers (and basically for any food source in my experience), the income is somehow fluctuating. One year I can gather much more food than the other for no obvious reason (but maybe there is something I miss).

@ZombieCleo Thanks for the video. Recently got back into this game and still struggling with people starving left and right. Now I have a much better understanding thanks to you.

I think one of the primary reasons why larger farms take longer to harvest and plant is the algorithm. The farmer(s) plant/harvest across one row, then move all the way back to the starting side and begin on the next row. Repeat. (In reality, upon reaching the end of a row one would move up a row and simply travel back to the other side planting/harvest as you go.) So the increased planting/harvest time on larger fields is most likely due to the extra time spent walking between rows. Smaller fields then are more efficient. I wonder if this effect is dependent on compass point? If so, then very tall (or very wide) fields would mitigate this effect. So an effective break even point might be to use 7x14 or 14x7 fields. I expect that would require two farmers apiece. Worth testing though. Also, I've had wonderful harvests from orchards. The trick is to max them out. The largest size (15x15) supports 6 workers. I do not think they would rate higher than your top three in either category, but they do produce a significant amount of food.
@METALFREAK036 жыл бұрын
This is all good but the number of workers matters also. As on some of these production buildings diminish takings per worker. For example, Hunters lodges are better with 2 workers. It depends on range factor but it's usually 600 per worker.
@4bsolutely5 жыл бұрын
Best and most efficient farm size for one worker is 8x15 or 10x12 so 120 square. It gives 840 food per year with one worker. No need for fish.
@DreadX105 жыл бұрын
What about 11x11? 121 squares and 848 per worker because you only need 1 for sub 126-square fields.

those fishing docks yields could of doubled if you had put a barn and two house next to them i can get 2000 food from a fishing hut like the 900 one
@MrMmva10 жыл бұрын
Thumbs up! Thank you! Time to go back to my town and fix Aaaa lot of things! I do missed the Orchard info though, I noticed that these tend to supply very low amounts of food. You have no use of them the first 5 years, then you get a peak of food because all trees are healthy. But after a year of 10 I noticed that 50% of the trees are replanted. However, they might be interesting for the food variety of the town.
@theveldtrekker25504 жыл бұрын
Very good research. Gonna invest a bit more in fishing. I also question a bit of the analytics with regards to the fishing huts, some had houses and barns near them and some didn't. That has quite an effect on how long they spend away from the docks to pick up tools/food, get warm and drop of their catch. So it isn't just water coverage that effecta the size of the catch Also,I'm bummed you didn't do anything with orchards. Next time :)

The biggest farm you can have with one farmer is 7x8 or 4x14 which is 56 squares. Each farmer can farm 56.25 squares. I think you said it was a 7x7 was the max for one farmer.

Hi clod, I have recently found your channel and I think it is pretty cool. I don't log in to watch videos very often. Anyways, I have a few questions. I am on a 55 year old banished world, with very little food and people. I am wondering both how you got so much food so quickly as well as people so quickly. Should I just start planting houses everywhere or should I give it a while in hopes to get lots more people. Thanks.
