Its a political litmus test, rather than an actual belief. They want people for their other less savory views who can debate an absolutely ridiculous and unscientific position so that they can argue other things that are unpopular and also depend on non-facts. Flat Earthers are inevitably Trumpies and the like.
@mangot5894 жыл бұрын
And then of course, there’s always the ones who put politics into every single conversation, no matter how unwarranted, because even though they can’t believe it, not everybody in the world runs their lives according to politics, and have other things they think/believe in, no matter how outrageous it seems to others.

Also to support the ancients and their knowledge of a round earth; look at Job 26:10 where “He described a circle upon the face of the waters, until the day and night come to an end.” A spherical Earth is also described in Isaiah 40:21-22-“the circle of the earth.” (Cir. 8th Century B.C.?)

My attempt at a bonus fact to add to this video: Dante's Divine Comedy actually contains three parts, Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory), and Paradiso (Paradise). Most people just know about the first part, Inferno, but the later two parts are equally interesting.

@voodoomagic905 жыл бұрын
@@Tux.Penguin I wonder if theism has something to do with that. I've heard from some of my friends who'd try and debate these flat Earth believers in their discord groups that a lot of them (not all) are usually theists and that it seems to be part of the reason they don't want to believe or let go of their argument even if they lost. Of course there could be tons of other factors but apparently this was a common one among them 🤔
@Tux.Penguin5 жыл бұрын
Ramya A I can imagine that some flat earthers might fall back on some form of religion or dogma when they perceive their theory is under attack, but I don’t know that there’s necessarily a correlation or causation. Some people just really want to believe certain notions, even notions outside the sphere of theism.
