A New Haven Banjo clock from the 1920s is repaired and restored. Engraved onto one of the plates is KEH 76, which I assume is the last time the clock was serviced. The movement is now rebushed and a cracked pinion gear repaired. The case will be restored next in part 2.

Hi MR Perry. Thanks for another great video! Can't wait for part 2. I empathize with your taking the movement apart to reset the mainspring. Been there done that.😃

I just wanted to thank you for your videos! I am just getting into clocking, and I find your videos extremely informative. I have a New Haven Whitney with this same 335 movement. I finally took it apart to service it this weekend, and having watched your video was extremely helpful in my endeavor. Sure enough, one of the clicks was gummed, but because of your video I new exactly how to deal with it! So many thanks! I love your videos. You explain exactly what you are doing, and why, so that we can learn how to trouble shoot and resolve issues ourselves. My favorite was your video of the Railroad Cuckoo for Wade as I am in the process of restoring one, and love to see the issues you encounter and resolve. Thanks again!

This looks to have been a more difficult repair than the average movement, especially the cracked gear that turns the count wheel and having to replace the large bushings for the main wheels. Nicely done. Your jigs for pivot polishing with the wooden dowels and piece of wire to drive the wheel are clever - I will have to try that. Thank you for making these videos, which must take a lot of time.

Some repairs are a lot tougher than others, but that's what makes the hobby fun. If they were all routine, there'd be no challenge. The little wheel drivers were something I saw long ago. They are not my own design. I make the videos mainly for the people for whom I repair the clock so they have a record of what was actually done. I don't charge for the repairs, but ask for a donation to our local food pantry. The videos help them decide what would be an appropriate donation. The more that's donated, the more the needy in our community will benefit. They also serve as a way to pay for the repairs since I monetize them and ultimately make some money from the videos. I don't spend a lot of time making them and some people get angry with me for not producing a more professional product. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

Looks like someone's bad work in "76". Thanks for this good video showing the bushing work.

Thanks for sharing the thought process of troubleshooting the problems encountered and how to address them especially the challenge of silver soldering the broken gear caused by the last genius who touched this clock.

Very good video. I always learn new things by watching your videos. I am wondering if you could post a video on servicing ATMOS clocks. There is hardly nothing online on those clocks and your way of explaining things would make it a great video. Thanks

The idea of the Atmos clock is to use changes in atmospheric temperature to wind the SPRINGS that run the clock. Quartz movements are battery operated, thus there would be no need for the winding mechanism using atmospheric temperature. I don't know how an "Atmos quartz clock" would even be possible.

Hello Mr. Perry! As I told you before I live in Argentina and I love repairing clocks as a hobby. Right now I am working with a very old movement, for which I have no idea where it's from, because it has no information engraved. I was wondering if you could help me recognize the manufacturer and the approximate date of creation. The only thing that shows are three stars. I would really appreciate getting in touch with you privately. Thank you very much for your time!

The only way I can communicate is for you to put an email in a comment. I hold comments for approval, so no one but me will see your email. However, KZbin will censor a comment with a link, so put the "at" symbol and the "dot" in words so it doesn't look like an external link. If you don't get an email from me within 24 hours, you'll have to try again.

At the end of the day, when I want something relaxing to watch, I always seem to end up with your videos. They're informative (I often learn something) and somehow relaxing - I think that's because it's how you deliver them and the fact they are about mechanical clocks - long obsolete technology. BTW, what does the 428 stand for? Is it a date? You Americans have dates backwards so I'd guess August '42 if it was a date that is...

In the state of Illinois, school districts are numbered. The school district from which I retired was District 428 in DeKalb, Illinois. Thank you for the kind comments. BTW, mechanical clock movements are anything but obsolete. One can buy new mechanical clocks, some of which are very sophisticated and very expensive. Grandfather (tall case) clocks are still very popular, as are many wall and mantel clocks. Check out the Erwin Sattler clocks made in Germany and check out the prices of those clocks. www.wempe.com/en-us/watches/erwin-sattler/erwin-sattler-products/ Cuckoo clocks are still manufactured and in high demand.

@@dperry428 Perhaps I worded that wrong - the technology (clockwork) is obsolete in so far as quartz (yuk) is cheaper, more accurate and reliable. I love clocks - have a long case (circa 1980) and a mantle clock (circa 1930) and far too many pocket watches (circa 1880 till 1970's).
