The pre-built vehicle missions get more interesting when you realize that you can hop out and edit what you're given. It changes them from pre-built vehicle missions to build a machine with limited parts missions, which can force you to think outside the box and sometimes get even more creative than when you have all your parts at your disposal. Case in point: that mission where you have to drive the sail powered car up the tree? After a few frustrating attempts, I had a hunch and turned the sails to face upwards. And since the sails provide thrust in the direction they're facing, pointing them up just let me fly straight to the goal. Anyway, thanks for this video. It made me feel... oddly nostalgic? I mean I wasn't a kid when it came out, I was 20. But still, that was 10 years ago. You made me really want to go play it again, but I don't have a 360 or Xbone.

We can agree that this game has made one mistake that can never be forgiven, the ever present usage of COMIC SANS
@X2011racer5 жыл бұрын
Well, it was the closest font out of all the default Microsoft fonts to the font used in the original Banjo-Kazooie. Yet, there was no need to change fonts if the beta builds of Nuts & Bolts had the font later used in the XBLA versions of Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie (Unless they wanted the font to match those of Grunty's Revenge and Banjo-Pilot, which also used Comic Sans).
@Dr18Registered5 жыл бұрын
iirc an update added the comic sans, the original game used a different font I think
@RunningShovel5 жыл бұрын
The Comic Sans seen in this video was patched in as a bandaid for people who couldn't read the original font. N&B came out in that weird transition period where half the console userbase had HDTVs and the half with CRTs couldn't read any fonts or minimaps. You can google "Banjo Kazooie Nuts Bolts Dialog" to see examples of the original format.

Playing this as a kid without knowing that previous Banjo games was honestly like. The most formative experience I had in my childhood. Of every game I played growing up, (and I played a lot) I can't think of anything else that affected me as much as N&B did, it's where I realized I had such a passion for for building, testing, and just bringing an idea to life that I believed in. I honestly believe this game almost single handedly put me on the career path I'm pursing, and I'm incredibly glad that I played it. Looking back after playing every other Banjo game, I loved all three, but I'll always remember Nuts and Bolts are something completely unique and so wholly special among games of it's time. Thanks for making this video, it's really great to know I'm not the only one who remembers this game so fondly

I got Nuts & Bolts when it first came out, and I loved it then and I still love it now. Actually my absolute favorite game from the last console generation because Rare wasn't afraid to try something new. Creating zany vehicles just for the sack of making them was so much fun in itself, and having your crazy ideas actually have hilarious results in the challenges is always a treat. I should play through it again, but unlike last time where I used the tried-and-true I'd try and make the most ridiculous vehicles imaginable for each task. They certainly give you the tools for it.

You brought it up in the middle and the end, but I think the biggest blunder with this game is putting the title of Banjo-Kazooie on it. You've made it sound and look quite fun to play, and I believe that it is a fun game, but it should never have been the third game in the Banjo-Kazooie franchise. It reminds a lot of the game Besiege, which has a similar building system with challenges, just no overworld or Banjo characters. That game was very well received, and was praised for many of the same things you praised in this game! Had Nuts & Bolts been rebranded as a new game, I don't think it would have suffered the same fate that it did. I think this is a current problem in video games today, and would love to see more people making new and different games without trying to piggyback off of an existing beloved franchise. Great video! It was very cool to see an open and accepting perspective on this game. Looking forward to more from you :)
@ADHDpsycho5 жыл бұрын
I agree, the first level hurts the most especially so because it shows the game we could of received. He mentions that the lack of move set is because it wouldn't fit in the new game-play. If the move set from Banjo-Kazooie doesn't fit in the newest Banjo-Kazooie, it shouldn't be called that. Like you said, it could of been a cool game but they Frankensteined the face and nostalgia from previous games to sell this mess. It limits new ideas because they have to put the bare minimum BK elements to please veterans and conversely it limits the true potential of a N'sane style remake by stuffing all this bullshit new stuff in the game. It's 2 unfinished games stitched together. The product wasn't bad, but boy oh boy did they fuck up the label and packaging. Sometimes a game series THIS OLD just needs to be polished for the people who will appreciate the "old gameplay" they grew up with and LOVED. Games like this only alienate original players, and give newer players a mediocre game that makes them wonder why they should give a shit. After a while new gamers need their own mascots and idols to love, what if they did this back then and put a character we've never seen before with some shit gameplay to please people 2 generations before us? We'd say it's mediocre and shit, and the people who recognize the characters will say it's also mediocre, shit AND a disrespect of something they once loved. When Panoots downplays the lack of new moves with "well it wont fit with the new style and game play" makes it seem like it's the audiences fault for expecting what they very correctly should have. It makes it seem like it's the old games fault for trying to be what is was literally called in the title (granted N&B is there too). All they had to do was just make a new mascot for this game and all would be chill, I might of even liked this game. Sadly, now matter how "fun" the new game play might be i'm stuck looking at the promise of what could of been. I respect that he tries to put a new perspective on this though, good job.

At the same time, not being able to accept the game for what it is still feels very petty. So what if it isn’t like other Banjo-Kazooie games? We shouldn’t bash the game because of that. New gameplay styles can help us explore these worlds in new ways

This game is what I like to call a "black sheep". It's not really a bad game. It's just that it's such a radical departure from what it's series is known for. I might say it's comparable to a modern Paper Mario. Color Splash especially. I loved Color Splash and enjoyed it's creativity but because it's different it results in a somewhat fractured fanbase. The same can be said for Nuts & Bolts. The reason though why the critics negatively bashed the game the way they did was because of the wait between games. People wanted a platformer. What they got instead was a game about vehicles and missions focusing on them.

@@AdamTopCommenter I don't think i would blame RARE for that. This video has been lovingly crafted. I remember playing Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts when I first got my Xbox 360. With the exception of Fallout 3 and Modern Warfare 2, I put in hours into this game; completing all the challenges, transferring the stop n swap (and being excited to see the union jack as a building part) and creating all sorts of vehicles that I could fly around and mess around with in Nutty Acres. When I was playing it, I wasn't displeased that it wasn't Banjo Threeie, I was excited to play another Banjo Kazooie game, and I did enjoy my time playing it. It got me into collecting achievements, experimenting and finding a new fond love for video game musics. Even after watching Jontrons video about Nuts and Bolts, and seeing some of the comments bashing the game, I can't help but still remember the memories I've had with the game, and wish I could go back and play it again. It saddens me that the Rare Replay isn't available on Windows 10, but I hope I can revisit the game in the future, so I can see how well it's hold up for me after so many years. Thank you for making this video Panoots!

Adv Lamp Thing is, the game isn't bad (even Jontron mentions it in that video)... The issue is that this game isn't what people wanted nor were promised when Banjo's return was announced (he also states this). That is true, I won't deny that Nuts and Bolts is defiantly not the game we saw in the trailer. No traditional platforming, no flight pads, no mole hills, hell there isn't even any honeycombs! I would like to see what Rare originally had plans for Banjo Threeie, but sadly, Nuts and Bolts is the result. I wasn't mad personally back in the day, that we didn't get Banjo Threeie (I was too young at the time to understand game development) but it would be nice to finally get the game that we saw 10 years ago.

Mike, i'm your youtube-archieve-viewer for like 2 years. And I'm very happy to see you creating stuff like this! I see it takes a lot of effort but the outcome is so great. It was fun watching both your N&B streams and this video.

Nuts and bolts is my favorite game. The models are great and the story line is amazing. (In my opinion)

I think the art style shift was for more varied facial expressions. They looked like that even during the teaser.

Excellently done. You've convinced me I was too hard on this game. It made some major missteps, but sounds like there's enough good in there to make up for it. It almost seems reminiscent of Scribblenauts, in the way that you can approach problems in creative and odd ways.

19:20 You've done it. You captured the essence and greatness of this game in one hilarious clip.

For a first attempt at a long-form video like this, it was excellently done! You manage to keep a good pace through the entire hour so I never got bored, and I appreciate the care taken to match clips to what your were saying, and the brief highlight clips of stream footage/audio were great fit without being overdone. It's an easy subscribe from me for more content in this vein! Looking forward to whatever you come out with next!

I do like the layout of Showdown Town, if only someone could make a good 3D model of that entire hub world

this game kicks ass and anyone who didn't give it a fair shake is missing out on one of the most unique and fun games i've ever played. i had something like 300 blueprints saved around the time i stopped playing it after a verrrry long time. countless original vehicles, replicas of existing stuff, or literally just physics experiments to see what the game would do with them. also building the heaviest vehicle possible, putting springs on the front and ramming animals to see them blast off into orbit never got old

The last thing I would expect from your channel would be longform video game analysis. No complaints though.
