With some O2 sensors are very sensitive. They can be easily stripped out if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Using a good o2 sensor socket can help reduce that. Ive come across a few that were really rusted and wouldnt come out. Ive even had one that literally ripped the exhaust pipe trying to get it out.

I tried this socket and it broke on the sensor. I brought another long one from Harbor and it got wide. I ended up cutting the half of the sensor and using regular socket to take it out. Those sockets are only meant to tighten the sensor but not to open them. My own experience.

That o2 mustve been pretty stuck. Ive had both my o2 sensor sockets for years and use them to remove them all the time. Thats a good way to go about it when all else fails though for sure. Ive had to drop exhaust a few times just to get to the sensor with a socket so I get the struggle. Ive never broke my o2 sockets though, sorry to hear that. Glad you got it!

Working on a 09 sonata 2.4L. got to change bank one sensor one. Any tips? I think I got it but I wont turn away any advise. Also, is there any "reprogramming" or special thing you have to do with a scantool? or is it just swap and clear obd2 codes? Thanks for the video!

Do you need to disconnect the battery or remove any fuses before replacing the O2 sensor?

Ive never had a problem. If youre worried about it itd be smart to disconnect the battery. I dont believe o2 sensors have any constant power to them till the cars swicted on. You want to reset the code before a fresh start so if you dont have a code reader then disconnecting the battery would be next best anyway.

Hey MegamilesBen, I recently got a P0130 code, sensor 1 bank 1 on a 2008 Sonata, 2.4L, I replaced it with a new Bosch and cleared the code. It came back the next day just sitting in the driveway. I checked the fuses, the sensor is getting voltage, the new and the old sensor read 3.8 ohms on the heater wires. I checked for vacuum leaks and I can’t figure out what is causing it. The fuel trims report negative values like the car is running rich. I swapped the MAF sensor, cleaned the throttle body. The plugs are 2 years old. The car runs perfectly fine besides this stupid code.

@Angel_xXx_76 I dont do diagnostics, especially on youtube, theres just too many "could bes". You might have exhaust issues or even a bad ecu. Instead of playing a guessing game, I would have it diagnosed by dealer and pinpointed. The cost of the diagnostics wouldve been cheaper than all youve done and youd know what it is. Thats why I dont do diagnostics on youtube or over the phone. Its literally just a guessing game like that.

You can use a wrench. A lot of 02 sensors are in positions that you cant get a wrench on. Just be careful not to strip it.

It shouldnt. Thatd be a cooling issue. Radiator, water pump, thermostat, temp sensor, low coolant, bad coolant, bad fans, and so forth.

My 2011 sonata doesn't have an O2 sensor down there? Only two up by the manifold before the flex pipe.. 🤔

All 4 cylinder will have 1 before the cat and 1 after the cat. All v6 & v8 will have 2 before the cats and 2 after the cats. Thats not just Hyundai, thats all gas powered engines. I would double check.

@MegaMilesBen 4cly, looks like maybe cat 1 is part of the manifold cat 2 is where you are at. Upstream sensor is straight on top of the manifold and bank 1 sensor 2 is maybe a foot under that one. Grabbed the hole exhaust system all the way out to check, no other sensors. The car does have clip locations for the wire down there, but no plug. Both plugs are on top left side of motor

The code should tell you which one. You might want to go back and get the code again.

Might not have been the 02 sensor. Might be a cat or something else. Id recommend a proper dignostics on that.

Again, it could be a number of things such as the eletrical to the pig tail. If youre getting p0420, thats such a generic code and doesn't always come down to the o2 sensor. I would recommend a diagnostics, I cant help you like this, sorry. Running a code reader is not a diagnostics.

Its actually not bad. Most o2 sensors you just need to break loose and theyll twist out by hand. I didnt have time to let the car cool down for this replacement so it was tight from heat.

@tjdillon9827 This one was stuck good and was really tight coming out, heat expands metal. Rather than just cranking on it and tearing up the threads, I slowly work it out with wd40. Im adjusting my ratchet too which also looks like back and forth. Ive actually ripped exhaust pipes trying to get out some o2 sensors in my younger years.
