You couldn't write this unless you had this experience. It's so fucked up you couldn't make it up but everyone from an abusive relationship could tell the exact same story. People always ask why people don't just leave but this is why. They ruin your life, act like the victim and make you feel guilty. So much insight, i love her.

I was in an abusive relationship for 4 years both mental and physical and this song, brain, and explosions by Ellie Goulding literally got me out. I would listen to them over and over and cry and because I kept my relationship hidden as much as I could and not talked about it like I probably should have, these songs are like the shoulder I cried on that I needed. I will never fucking forget this song ever. Thank you Jillian ❤️

My life changed a lot and i am at a beautiful place but still unfortunatelly some nights i get triggered and my body shuts down or i feel dizzy. I'm recovering and thank God i confronted that monster and finally everything is over. I spent my time healing and loving my new life. Thank you so much for your kindness🤍

Same! I moved to a different state to be with the man I love and he turned out to be just like this. Verbally and mentally abusive and emotionally vacant all while I did everything for us. And now he is singing me the chorus. I play this to remind me that I DONT WANT THIS. I still love him and I don't know why. He never did anything for me. Guess it's the manipulation of an abusive relationship. I will heal!

If you are reading this and you feel like you relate to this song... know that you are not alone. But remain strong and play this as much as you need to to keep away from that abusive relationship that you do not deserve. You have been giving your heart and soul to this man who does not appreciate you. He only does when you're gone because he knows he will never find someone like you. Someone so loving and giving and forgiving. But that's the fun part... You get to move on and find somebody that respects you and appreciates everything that you are willing to do for the man that you love. He will notice all of the other things this cunt never saw. Xoxo

I've been both of these people in relationships, sometimes in the same relationship. We really do turn into our parents but that's not an excuse to act like them, and we really can change into the people we want to become. I'll never stop working on myself but I think I've healed a lot because this song used to be so visceral because it described the relationships I was in at the time, and now, it no longer does. it hurts less and less every time I listen. I think I'm healing and I think my partner is too.
