209 subscribers - Congratulations Sam!!! This is so wonderful, your community is growing and growing. I should have read 1984 at school, but I found it so uninteresting as a teenager that I only ever read the chapters that were discussed. Unfortunately, even then the books were only on loan, so I don't currently own it... Maybe I'll have a look in my library sometime. I've actually read Catcher in the Rye myself and I don't know if I was too young to fully understand it, but I just found it confusing. To kill a mockingbird, Fahrenheit 451 and handmaid's tale are actually also already on my never-ending wish list.

Wow, well done on 200 subs! You certainly seem to have a knack for this! I'm always surprised to see what's made some of these banned books lists. I have zero problem with some books being considered appropriate for adults only. I don't know, say Henry Miller's stuff, for example. At least I sure as heck wouldn't be comfortable discussing them with a class full of minors. But most of these just seem ridiculous. Different times, I suppose.

@@BryanM.R.-prionic1 i appreciate it! Not sure if it’s a knack or just trial by fire 😂 And yea, don’t really understand the reasoning behind some of the banned books. Different times indeed

I've read all of these books. Lord of the Flies was one of my favorite books I read in school. I was 10 when I read it the first time. It got me into studying human nature and then eventually studying civilizations.

@@Lore_a_by I just recently read it, like last week recently lol. So so good, I went in blind not knowing what it was about and dang. Was not disappointed

Have very much enjoyed the content! Not a banned book, but have you read the C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy? Highly recommend. First book's writing had me in absolute awe.

Hey thank you for the kind words,. I apprecite it! I have not checked out that trilogy, but its now on my radar. Good writing is always alluring, no matter the genre!

Lol I read catcher in the rye, to kill a mocking bird, lord of the flies, and 451 as just part of my English Lit curriculum in HS. Granted the public HS I went to was pretty well funded, but damn how times have changed.

i am in a similar boat as you, read them in HS and revisted them some years later. Appreciate you being here!

Great video! I just recently purchased all the books you mentioned. I had banned books on my mind last year and decided to buy a huge haul of them (maybe 50 or so). I don’t recall being assigned these back in HS over a decade ago but I’ve always known the titles. I also didn’t enjoy reading back then but I’ve enjoyed it since, so finally reading all these classics has been really enjoyable so far. I just read Fahrenheit 451 for the first time about a week ago. Absolutely loved it, it really mirrors modern times. Everyone being more focused on their screens, not reading as much, media literacy in the toilet, illiteracy in the US in general. Reading banned books is so important. I don’t agree with banning books, although I’m sure there’s a few outliers where it makes sense in some way but in general it just seems so frustrating to try and censor what someone can read like that. And I’ve heard people make the troglodyte level argument like “they’re just banning it from schools/libraries, you can still buy them” as if that makes it alright. Not everyone can afford to go buy these books, that’s why the free PUBLIC libraries have them to access in the first place. I’ll stop ranting lmao, anyways read banned books you guys! 🤘🏻

@@ReadBooksMore I hear ya, and my take in some of the books being banned in just schools or just library’s was not to make it seem justified, but you’re right. Banning a book in any sense has som repercussions. Appreciate the discourse here, have a great day!

@ Oh no worries I wasn’t coming for anything you said in the video! A lot of the weird arguments I’d been hearing about the banned books being only in schools/libraries was from TikTok a few weeks ago. Actually with TikTok being banned (or not, I’m still unclear what’s going on) it’s just another form of that type of censorship. It’s a wild world we live in!

I somehow have not read any of these books!!! I love the movie A clockwork Orange tho. Adding all to my list for the sake of them being classics and I feel like I need to read them to be a participant of society lol
