Lets be real, it is cheating. If you intentionaly find weaknesses in the system and try to use them for an advantage, u are cheating. On the other hand, valve should know what is possible to do with console commands and they should make some restrictions.

Using literal wallhacks and making smokes not appear is straight up cheating even if its only through the console you still had to deliberately go out of your way to enable them knowing exactly what it would do .

In gaming lingo: Cheating is usually defined by the use of a third party program to give the player an unfair advantage. Exploits are usually defined by the misuse of bugs or mistakes in the vanilla game to gain an unfair advantage. Gaining an unfair advantage doesn’t necessarily justify the cheating label by default. Taking advantage of a dev’s mistake shouldn’t be punished the same as cheating (in most cases, including this).

AFAIK it is not _just_ a regular console command. As I understood from bananagamings video you have to specially construct the command line som it bypasses the normal sv_cheats block out.

Should we not hold this to the same standard as the molly vision change in csgo? olof boost? smoke bugs? cheating is gaining an unfair advantage, which, everyone of these gave you, but no one got banned from them. There should be a ban, a slap on the wrist, but faceit knew about this almost two weeks before the players got banned and nothing was said afaik

Part of the game doesn't matter that much when they using as their slight advantage over other players in any game. Banning is logical imo. These guys just got hard lessons and learning experience.

This is a game bug and knowing fully well that it was, the player decided to exploit it maliciously. One thing is seeing what the command does for jokes (like dima did) one match, but a completely different approach is exploiting it consistently and constantly. That's like saying that players who find a major exploit in an MMO/RPG game that duplicates in-game currency or whatever should not be banned for EXPLOITING the bug. I think that the ban length is completely justified and that's the only way to make players learn from their stupid mistakes.

2 year BAN is totally justified, with the current state of CS2, only Faceit is taking these cheating problems seriously. It's not like they didn't knew before using these commands well they knew the commands would help them cheat before they entered it, so why not treat them like real cheaters. If they had any integrity they wouldn't even have tested the commands on server with real players in the first place.

W take, Hawka. The whole "it's in the game" argument is super weak. At the end of the day, CS is still a game, impossible to be bug-free/exploit-free, that's why faceit or tournament have rules on these matters. And the cfg argument is also weak, when 2 rules conflicts, one of those will be a higher priority and supersede the other one. Because if the cfg argument is valid, then hypothetically, if someone was to write a complete 3rd party wallhack into the cfg, faceit cannot ban it because it is in the cfg. I disagree with "cheating is cheating" stance too because if you were to do it in a private lobby with friends, who cares? If those acad players would have done it privately but not on faceit, then the whole thing would have been avoided. It is just very stupid action to do as an acad player, like what do they expect? The second thing is that people are just more sympathetic because 2 acad players are banned for 2 years, career ruined. Imagine if no acad player/pro player are banned, all those people would not care at all. They argue "2 years" is too long, yeah, faceit already set up the duration for punishment in their TOS. Like weed is illegal in some countries. Some people might think the law is dumb to prohibit it. But just because the law is dumb doesn't justify you breaking the law, the law is still there in the first place. If you are playing on their platform, you have to accept their TOS first.

100% deserved, almost the entire community crying about cheaters, then you go off and deffend people that used a console command to gain same advantages as a person that has an external cheat program. Fuck anyone that used it, Valve is not in a position to VAC ban cause their fault is for making it available, but all of those who used it should be banned and thats a fact. I think the punishment was too harsh. It’s crazy that you could even cheat with a console command. Those guys deserve a slap on the wrist for sure. But this shouldn’t be something that ruins a career. Imagine if Olofmeister was banned 2 years for boosting on overpass

The only difference between walling using 3rd party or console is how easy it is to do. That's literally the only difference. As for the olofboost, I'm not sure why that's worth bringing into the conversation. That's not even remotely the same. Using a clever boost that turns out to be against the rules is not the same as walling, no matter how much you try to justify or spin it. By that logic, speaking during a tech pause in an event would also warrant a 2 year ban because it's against the rules.

ther was a game called Blacklight: Retribution that had a wall hacks perk, it was kinda fun, but you couldnt look thru walls and shoot, you had to switch back and forth and it had a cooldown..

We all agree it should be something to ban for, but two years for someone that just put a command in the console is quite the ruckus Mainly because it comes with the game and as such is quite the temptation to just turn it on without really thinking about it that deeply. "look at this PEW PEW PEW HEHEEHE" And obviously it's still cheating, but there should be more of a humane look into it I call 6month ban, up to a year a fair shot. For the thought process of "make it a warning". I think just the reality that there were arguments from the Faceit rules for both sides is proof that it wasn't made clear enough for full cheat ban. Make a rule about exploiting the games console for malicious purposes and give a warning in social media. Give a warning shot to the leg for the current exploiters and get the ban hammer shining. TLDR, Give a smaller but still hitting ban, clarify console exploits as full-on cheating and take it heavily the next time.

any time you do something that will give you and unfair advantage to win, a ban is justified. these players were going pro and they knew what they were doing, and were doing so willingly. idk if they won the game, but if they were using it to cheat and win, even though its a bug in the game, a ban of 2 years is very justified. if they were using it to muck around like dima/flom, then it wouldnt be as bad/ban worthy.

3-6 months isn't even a slap on the wrist. If they really wanted to try wallhacks so bad, do so in casual at the very least. Aspiring pros should neither need or want to cheat, especially in competitive settings. Hopefully they learn from this.
