I think that the big swing in Modern is what the format needs to get people excited. Just bans won't get people interested after a long, stale meta. Wish Legacy had seen a big swing as well.

Don't think Nadu needs to be banned power-wise, but it's exhausting and unfun to play against. They seldom ban for those reasons, though (I think Top was banned among other things because it slowed games down sooo much).

Mind twist has been unbannable in legacy for a long time, it's probably the safest card to come off the banlist. Frantic search is definitely unbannable, give high tide some love. Earthcraft same, I doubt anyone cares about squirrelcraft in 2024. Survival seems slow enough now, the only issue with it is how it ages as more creatures are printed.

Totally agree with you in regards to Legacy. I was hoping (maybe not expecting) more bans and some unbans - although we know the RL is probably the main reason why some of the cards you mentioned e.i., survival / earthcraft are still banned 😕

I am so excited for this!!! Honestly I havent been super excited to play/brew for modern since the one ring and energy decks just feel so hard and aggressive for brews to handle. Like I bought a monowhite blink deck for modern as it was reasonably cheap and I enjoy those sorts of strategies especially with phelia bringing a fun player to the field. But I just havent felt like playing it. But now I not only am pretty excited to play and go to my lgs, but also I rly am excited to brew. Temur Vannifar with Twin. Jeskai control (with a twin transformation sideboard), Wizards with Twin, Hardened Scales, Urza, 8cast etc just feel so much more exciting in modern to try out!

I am sorta surprised they havent just banned all the non-limiting companions. I do think Kaheera is the least problematic as only Elementals and UW control really can use it. And I dont think its enough to break these decks right now, but it will eventually be banned I feel like. Besides that I doubt obosh is good enough for now, and every other companion is chill af Altho tbh I wouldnt be surprised if they keep printing free spells that one day Obosh will have to go too.

Yes but it also lot the one ring I understand their reasoning here take out a huge peice (the one ring) and knock a vaule peice as to leave the deck still functional but without its peices that give it extra legs in the late game

Do you think that Modern Ruby Storm should play faithless looting and would it be a full playset? The card is obviously busted if you want a cheap and efficient discard outlet, and it is a PIF deck, but also technically card disadvantage. Would love to hear your thoughts on this and maybe a video trying it out if you think it's worth testing.

Jegantha was a free roll in many decks before Boros. Get rid of having an 8th card in hand with 0 cost. It wasn't just aggro decks that used it. Plenty of control decks ran it at the time, too.

regarding modern: I was a bit surprised ugin's labyrinth wasn't talked about. the card just seems toxic. It enables legacy-style plays like t1 trinishpere with a cavern in play or t2 thought-not/karn etc., and literally has a [fake drawback]. The penalty is you get to protect a key card in your hand from disruption until you absolutely need it? What the hell?? Meanwhile we get what to answer that? 4 Consign in the side? Gimme a break. Maybe you see one or two consigns post-board but that'll never be enough to stop all the big things they cast at warp speed. Wait til turn three to cast a moon effect in modern? Please, the damage will already be done. I'm pretty excited about the unbans though. Questions for you: Think green sun will make infect viable again? and what about looting? could it revive decks like dredge or maybe even vengevine or grishoalbrand? maybe that's wishful thinking but I'd love to see one of those make a comeback.

I am a pretty big believer in format identity and I personally think entomb/reanimate are a part of legacies identity and I dislike banning them because of that. It's why I would like to see troll banned first to break up the package. I understand troll is dying for the sins of entomb/reanimate and I also understand it may not be enough and I would be willing to ban out probably reanimate later if troll is insufficient. I just advocate for a softer touch on this one. Aside from that I think nadu, sowing mycospawn and probably Koz command should have went.

I think the legacy bans are so light because it really doesn’t matter until the end of the year. At least from wizards stand point. So they have time to make adjustments. I think the first rcq for 2025 is modern.

Let's discuss the black troll because I genuinely think banning him was just as important as getting rid of frog. Troll was oddly skipped over to me in that he A) is how they win most of the time B) is an un-counterable cycle/entomb and C) both enables them to run wasteland and protects them from opposing wastelands. I've been doing this reanimator thing a while and can tell you that reanimating troll with rakdos/BG feels kinda terrible, even if it's after a discard spell. But UB can protect it so much better that it's to a point where they only run one Atraxa. Hitting only frog will likely lead to something like this: they sub it for Tamiyo, orcish boymasters, goyf etc. and lo and behold, UB is still an issue, at which point WOTC could make a [critical archetype-killing mistake] in thinking entomb/reanimate are the real problem. To reframe it for you: banning entomb/reanimate would be like banning LED. I agree with their logic in keeping both around as the archetype really would falter if either of those were chosen. I doubt it would be tier 1 and non-blue variants that would survive a troll ban are far easier to defend against.

@@TrixRidiculous If FoW ever disappeared from the format, turn 1 meme decks become the meta. That is what "FoW is the glue that holds the format together" means. Vexing Bauble did the opposite of what it was intended to do. What seemed like a tool for non blue decks to fight combo just became a tool for combo to beat blue. The win % on the forge/ring deck was also concerning, which they do mention in the announcement.
