I actually kind of see this subclass as being perfect for the person who wanted to play a Paladin, but didn't want to deal with spell casting. Kind of like what I WISH the Scout Rogue was to the Ranger.

I’m pleasantly surprised by how the build works in game. I had always believed that it was awful, until a friend of mine played one for a one shot. He played a variant human purple dragon knight with the healer feat and made a ridiculously good support build. It was fun to play with him.

This class runs into the problem the fighter subclasses face where the battle master feels like a better support fighter than the actual supportive subclass

Your guys ability to be positive about almost every subclass astounds me, I was expecting you guys to absolutely tear this one to shreds; once again I am pleasantly surprised I think with A few minor changes here and there this might be a pretty OK fighter but I think it’s a little mediocre. Gotta say loved this video, most of the purple dragon Knight reviews have focused on how poor it is in comparison to other subclasses. It was nice to hear a view on the class itself, one with ideas on group and teamwork synergy too. Again keep it up every new video gets better and better.

could be kinda cool as a variant human, take the healer feat at first level and get eventually inspiring leader and shield master. Throw in 5 or 6 valor or glamour bard levels along the way. Won't be leading the way on damage but thanks to the 6 fighter asi's you'll provide a lot of support.

I had an idea for a Hogan's Heroes themed story, where Hogan and his men play D&D, as Carter gets the books and dice in a Red Cross package (don't ask why), and decide to rope Shultz, and Klink, into the game, with Shultz being the Moral Center as a Purple Dragon Knight, and Klink is the butt monkey thief. Idea is a Vampire Lord (Hogan cameo) has kidnapped the Princess (Klink's Secretary cameo), and now the King (Burkhalter cameo) has put together a team, comprised of a group of prisoners, who are in it for a Royal Pardon - Carter as an Alchemist Artificer (arrested for accidently blowing down a bank wall that was then robbed), Kinchloe as a half-drow Necromancer (Necromancy is illegal), Newkirk is a Lore Bard (caught in bed with the wrong lord's wife, not that the wife was complaining), and LeBeau is a halfling Oathbreaker Paladin and is easily the most Evil of the lot (or is he?) - with Shultz there to keep them in line. Then there's Klink - a spy for the King who almost accidentally drowned a lord he was watching (Hochstetter cameo), in a bowl of soup - he'd fallen from his higher hiding place and had landed on said lord and has been in the dungeon for a few months as a result - this is his last chance for redemption.

Also to add what I mentioned earlier about multiclassing with this class I would personally use a couple lvls of the draconic bloodline sorcerer to multiclass with the banneret for flavor/rp, and giving it more flexibility with the spells it would gain. In doing this you literally could rp the heck out of the dragon knight aspect of a the banneret subclass.
@stormbreaker30273 жыл бұрын
Something else I'd like to include that can really help out this subclass alot is feats as long as your stats are pretty good to begin with. So I'm in a ghost of saltmarsh campaign playing a noble lord, and being a variant human taking the healer feat right off has been a massive life saver, an the next feat im taking is the Aberrant Dragonmark feat which give me a cantrip (sword burst), a 1st lvl spell (absorb elements), and the ability to heal or do force dmg. However that still leaves 2 more feats or ability scores increases later on which really gives you a nice way to build onto your pc, and away to really enhance the banneret into something more beneficial to your party imo.

FAVOURITE CLASS!!! I have a homebrew that fixes I think most of the problems while still keeping that Charisma support Fighter feel if you're at all interested. I really wish they made this class better. I love the lore and it’s not a horrible class. It just feels like how some class at lvl get two abilities at levels, a good one and an okay one. This class feels like they forgot to give it the other ability at each level. Like you get Rally and “ you get add your charisma score to your second wind.” Something like that.

If the Purple Dragon Knight was actually helpful: Level 3: Focus of the Battle: While you are flanking an enemy with an ally, you impose disadvantage on all attacks that enemy makes towards a single flanking ally. Each round you are able to choose the ally this ability is applicable to at the start of your turn, if there is more than one flanking ally. This ability only works on one enemy at a time. Whenever you begin flanking an enemy, the first attack made against you by that enemy is made with advantage. Reminder of One's Power: Once per long rest you have the ability to use a reaction to shout enduring words to an ally within 60 feet of you who has dropped to 0 hp. If the ally passes a DC 10 Constitution Saving Throw, they go down to 1HP instead. For this ability to work your ally must not be affected by the deafened condition, and you must retain your ability to speak. Your words are also powerful and booming, and can be heard up to 300 feet. If the ally is within 5 feet away from you, they can make the Constitution Saving throw with advantage, however all ability checks or saving throws that involve hearing are made with disadvantage for the next 10 minutes, due to the loud shouting being directed at them. Level 7: Lead by Example: Whenever you use your Action Surge ability, your technicality as a Fighter is revealed to others. The nearest ally within 60 feet of you that can see you use your Action Surge ability is also able to use the Action Surge ability within the next 60 seconds. Your ally must not be affected by the blinded condition. If there is more than one ally within the same range of your nearest position, and also not affected by the Blinded condition, it is up to the DM's discretion on which ally is able to also use the Action Surge ability. If this ability is given to another fighter and they decide to use their Action Surge ability and the Action Surge ability granted by you, on their same turn, they do so at the cost of 1 level of exhaustion if unarmored, 2 levels of exhaustion if wearing Light or Medium Armor, and 3 levels of exhaustion if wearing heavy armor. Level 10: Enduring Inspiration: Whenever you use the Indomitable ability, you have the option of letting out a booming roar or shout words of inspiration, that grant benefits to the allies that are closer to your voice's vicinity. Each ally who can hear you and that are within 60 feet of your roar, are given a d8 inspiration die to use for the next 10 minutes. The inspiration die increases to a d10 at 15th level and a d12 at 18th level. Allies may only access one inspiration die at a time. Your allies must not be affected by the deafened ability, and you must retain your ability to speak in order for this ability to work. The booming shouts can be heard up to 300 feet away. Level 15: Penetrator of Defenses: You are able to tactically able to maneuver and cleave into your enemies in a way that lowers their defense, but also may be detrimental to your own well being, due the mass amount of concentration and exerted energy it takes to use this ability. As a bonus action your attacks are able to impose vulnerability on an enemy by the next ally that would do damage to it. If the ally's attack roll is a Natrual 20 and they would do Bludgeoning, Slashing, Piercing, Force, or Psychic damage to the enemy, the damage is instead tripled. This is affect remains active until the start of your next turn. You may do this a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier, however the more you do this between Long Rests, the more disadvantages it imposes on you. 1 use - No affects 2 uses - All attacks made against you within the next 10 minutes are made with advantage 3 uses - All attacks made against you are made with advantage until a long rest, and you suffer 2 levels of exhaustion 4 uses - You suffer 3 more levels of exhaustion 5 uses - You keep your HP but are incapacitated and must succeed 3 death saving throws or die. Only a long rest or a Greater Restoration spell can allow you to awaken. 6 uses - Death The affects reset during a long rest but the levels of exhaustion still wear off normally. Level 18: Guide to Victory: As an action you help a willing ally within 60 feet of you dig deep and make a reckless attack. If the ally is unwilling choose a different ally. The ally's next melee or ranged weapon attack is made with advantage while also imposing advantage to all attack rolls made against them, and vulnerability to the next attack made against them, until the start of their next turn. On a hit your ally deals an extra 7d8 + 30 damage of whatever kind of damage of the weapon that is being used. All dice that land on a 1 may be rerolled once. If the target enemy has 100 or less HP, and your ally's attack hits, the enemy automatically dies. Your ally must not be affected by the deafened condition, and you must retain your ability to speak. If you are the last of your party that's not incapacitated, or the last or only party member that's using a simple, martial, or magical weapon, you may use this ability on yourself. You can use this ability once per Long Rest.

I'll keep my hopes up that they offer ALL fighters a couple maneuvers in the future play updates! think it's a great talent :) should be allowed as a class feature to a couple classes; perhaps. Extending manuvers to rangers or making battle master martial focused ranger. Even as a level up class feature; beast master need buffs. Imagine your beast companion uses trip attacks! That's fun. Consider rogue. They steadily get more sneak attack die, maybe fighters get maneuvers at a greater rate and ranger slowly get maneuvers. Monks too? But not rogue if you're asking.

@prophetisaiah084 жыл бұрын
This subclass runs into a problem of being overly generic, I feel. The fighter's base abilities have the weakest class fiction of all the base classes, and this subclass doesn't actually add anything to the class to work with. Even less than the Champion, really. It wants to be the fighter that has that bard-like battle inspiration, but a Valor bard just does that so much better. It's not a bad subclass in isolation, but there's a big opportunity cost involved because you're not playing something else that could offer more.

Sometimes.you need second wind and no one else needs healing. Or your party needs it, but your life is almost full. You would like to save an ally from a bad charisma save, but you just succeed it. This subclass is not only poor in number of benefits, it's also very poorly designed. The concept is actually decent, but unfortunately it has a terrible execution.
