In today's video we show you how this Bansko Bulgaria expat family living costs are below the US social security check! Bansko may be the answer if you are a Nomad, Expat, or Retired on a Social Security Budget and dreaming of living in Bulgaria and having a mountain and skiing lifestyle. We think Bansko Bulgaria in ramping up to become the next Expat hot spot. In today's video we visit with Expats Ann and Christian who now call Bansko Bulgaria home with their two children.
Bansko Bulgaria is a ski town located in the Pirin Mountains, with a year-round population of 13,000 but winter population that may reach 50,000. Bansko has a very low cost of living by European and US standards, and apartments may cost as low as the price of an automobile. Bansko has more and more foreigners calling the region home due to the low cost of living and quality of life. The average US Retiree on Social Security receives $1,660 a month, and a couple on Social Security receives over $2,700 a month. A US Expat living on Social Security can expect a lower cost of living in Bulgaria when compared to the living costs in the US.
Currently the Dollar to BGN exchange rate is $1.00 to 1.99 BGN

Do you want to live abroad as an Expat? Are you looking for affordable and viable options? During our slow travel retirement, we are exploring the world to see what it's like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option.
We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it's like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along.
We will make a commission on these links, your rates are not impacted.

As a viewer, I appreciate your taking this time to add a cost of living perspective. Would you mind adding this... if one were to fly out of Bulgaria, would you travel to Sofia for international service? What's travel like connecting Plovdiv and Sofia? Of the two, I gather you prefer Plovdiv? Thanks for your time. Monty.

Something to think about, if you plan on having a car in BG you need a BG driving license, which for Americans, you're starting from scratch. They require you present a high school diploma, a diploma from a local driving school and you have to pass a written and driving test. You can take the written test in English, but you will need a translator to ride with you on the driving test.

What do you mean in the middle of nowhere? You are somewhere. Razlog is just round the corner, Blagoevgrad is close, Sofia is a couple hours away. It is not like there is nothing 300 miles in any direction. I think that it is perfect as it is, otherwise it would lose its charm

Hmm, I’ll have to rewatch the video to find where I said anything of that sort. I think my videos on the area have been pretty positive but truthful. The main reason we didn’t invest was the potential joining of Bulgaria to Schengen which it is unfortunately now doing. This will reduce our time to spend in Bulgaria going forward.

Thanks for the information! How easy is it for English speakers in Bansko?
@WarrenJulieTravel
@WarrenJulieTravel Жыл бұрын
It's really not too difficult due to it being a tourist area. Many tourists learn English as a second language and use it as a bridge language. You'll often find non primary English speakers speaking English to each other. Not to say you won't have occasional obstacles but they would not be major. Reading labels in the grocery store may be problematic, using Google translates camera option helps.

What is the cost of living in Bulgaria for a family of two in an economical city that has everything necessary in a two-bedroom home, including rent, utilities (electricity, water, gas, phone, internet, etc.), transportation, and entertainment, with moderate spending aiming for the most economical options but in a well-located, safe, and easily accessible area? Please provide the costs in American dollars or euros.

If you were to buy a home and settle , which place out of the three would you choose and why ? Bulgaria, Serbia or Montenegro ? Thanks !
@WarrenJulieTravel
@WarrenJulieTravel Жыл бұрын
We would consider any of the 3; however Bulgaria may join Schengen soon and that would unfortunately take away our ability to Schengen shuffle with our home base. Serbia is beautiful, but it doesn't have the coast for Warren. Montenegro works best for our needs.

I am Bulgarian American and homes very. Don't be fulled. Homes in Bulgaria can cost as much as those in the US. In smaller towns you can find less expensive properties. But most will need renovations. I was born in Sofia, the capitol. And my home is worth 300'000 ,for 2 bedrooms, two baths.Given that it's at an upper middle class neighbourhood. Again, as anywhere you get what you pay for. Bulgaria is entering Schengen this fall.we are adopting the EUR, and prices will go up. Bansko is a small resort town, so it really depends on your lifestyle and preferences.
