My Albanian song: • Alandy x Kevan Hudson ... (gotta promote it)
For legal questions about moving here:
Contact info: contact@koniniconsulting.com
Website: koniniconsulting.com/english/
I'm sure you can ask them about the Albanian Digital Nomad Visa, I'm sure they will have the latest up-to-date info but I'm also sure they will figure it out if they don't. My friend Tahir has been a HUGE help to getting my residency permit (and he's helped my friends too) so I have to shout him out!
Disclaimer: This is just my experience living here and based on the people I talk to. I only speak the language a little bit so of course people who are fluent are having a different experience than I am. And I'm also a black American which makes my experience different as well.
If I didn't like living here, I would have left. I love living here at the moment, but I think people need a realistic approach when moving abroad so I hope this will help them a bit.
I have a lot more to say and I can do a part 2 if there are enough questions that people have.
My IG is deactivated now, but when I open it back up the username is @whereskevan
Take care! And enjoy the beautiful country of Albania!

Thanks so much for this video, Kevan. I’ve been thinking of spending some time in Saranda more specifically and your video was really informative. I was actually a bit anxious about the LGBT piece, but from what I understood, it seems to be more of a don’t ask, don’t tell policy rather than I’ll beat you up if I suspect you may be of a “different persuasion.” Are street or bar fights common? Thanks! By the way, you’ve got a new subscriber. ❤

@@shaclo1512 well for a few different reasons I grew up in Europe though I’m an American. I feel a lot more comfortable with a European lifestyle. Most of the American lifestyle, no matter where you go it’s going to be very suburban which means perfect houses and lawns, but no vibe or feeling of community whatsoever. Everybody drives in their car, long distances, and most people spend the vast majority of the time, working really hard to pay off student loans and healthcare debt, everything here is extremely expensive I’m talking 4-5 times more expensive than for example, Albania were the quality is essentially the same or less even because shipping routes are far longer suited to much larger country and more isolated so the quality and freshness of food is less than you would find in a place like Albania, for example I could go on and on.

Thanks for sharing. You infer some interesting insight into the Albanian-psyche. I live in Chiang Mai,Thailand, a few years ago some Canadian-expats relocated to Sarande and opened up a small business. They have been raving about the place and because there are no Thai restaurants or ethnic-food options suggested that we should consider it as a ripe seasonal business opportunity. From exploring Albania via YT-vids I'm really impressed with many aspects of the country and look forward to visiting in the near future. But, I still remain strangely apprehensive about the idea of setting-up a Thai-restaurant there. Local tongue-taste may not be open to Thai flavors. I don't know....for example, just seems odd that there are no Chinese there...they are basically everywhere a door is open. I still find Albania fascinating and hope to check it out soon for myself.

Ive been watching a lot of vloggers these past couple weeks, and this video in particular has been the most informative and insightful so far. This was great. I use to travel live in SE Asia pre-pandemic. I'll be traveling around to random countries starting in August. Getting out of America again for an indeterminate amount of time for obvious reasons.. I'm choosing countries that don't require a visa for Americans. Albania was first alphabetically lol. This got me excited to visit.

Excellent accurate video Kevan. Im Albanian American living in US since 1997. Worked in the police force in Albania and Massachusetts police as well. In 2017 and 2018 lived a brief period in Tirana my birthplace. Although as an albanian born I was judging things as a " foreigner" and I couldn't not agree more with you. I noticed kids play football until midnight in the playground and my US mind got under alert initially, than I reminded myself that I was in Albania where kids live in one of the safest country to be a child. We played football at the Universiteti (;Mother Tereza Plaza) everyday until 0200 in the morning until our parents came to get us. As for racism: 1. Looks/steer its a common thing there and they steer a lot and everyone nevermind being a foreigner that look different and out of curiosity. 2. If someone yells at you any phrase in English, they don't do it to pick on you primarily but to impress other Albanians that they can speak English. 3. For what I have seen abroad Albanians appreciate friendship and are not racist people. Bronx NY is a tale of unbreakable friendships between albanians and african americans. In many occasions myself being in uniform and with accent being singled out officer by African American folks and in the moment they're told I was Albanian they immediately showed a great positive attitude pointing their albanian friends, neighbors and relationships. One very pretty lady once said: Are you Albanian? .. I surprised by her accuracy said yes and asked how she figured it out. She said that I talked like her Albanian boyfriend... Kevan my brother , appreciate you and your precise nsight about my old Country.

@MrKevanHudson
@MrKevanHudson 9 ай бұрын
IDK how to define "advanced" and IDK where you're from to compare. Because Tirana is more advanced than some areas in rural America. Shopping..mmm..I dont shop for clothes much but the prices are the same or maybe more expensenive than the rest of europe if you go to the mall. There are a lot of thrift stores and second hand shops everywhere. And there are also a lot of fake brands. They even sell fake Nikes at the mall which is shocking ebcause they mark them for the real price. IF you're the type of person that can recognize fakes and quality/value you'll be fine
@bletrick3352

Advanced in comparison to where. The USA? Depends on the State. I'd say Albania would be ahead of 4 or 5 US states in terms of overall development. I see you have a video on Gothenburg, think of Tirana as Gothenburg 10 years ago. That's the level the city is at. As for shopping and brands you have most of what you have in the USA

Mostly spot on, for someone that is not familiar with the place or the culture you may have gone a bit too deep into it. About the healthcare part, it is true that state healthcare isn't the greatest, but you can get good healthcare in Albania at the private hospitals. Health insurance and generally hospital fees are not that expensive. Albania pre-covid had higher life expectancy than the US 79.28 and 77 after covid, while it is 78.29 and 77.28 in the states. As you said Albanians are generally a bit traditional and elderly get a lot of care from their family members, as a foreigner you might not have the same situation. About drugs, they are easy to find, but you will not come across any if you are not looking for them. You might be hanging out with the wrong people mate, or the right people depending on what you are looking for :D It could also be that as a foreigner people assume you are into that stuff, people were brainwashed during comunist times to think that foreigners are people of low moral values. Generally a good list I would say, keep it up!

Healthcare there is much better than in the US. I have a pretty good health insurance in the US. But I try not to use it. Even with insurance, it’s so damn expensive. I pay in Albania full price on private hospitals and it’s still much cheaper than the US on health insurance.
@earlh
@earlh Жыл бұрын
@@User12345fan I'd still recommend having health insurance in Albania. You can easily pay cash for normal visits and what not, but it can get pretty expensive if you end up needing something more complicated. My uncle needed to have heart valve replacement surgery and that ended up costing in the tens of thousands of dollars, still cheaper than in the US, but not exactly pocket change either. You could always get treated at the public hospitals for next to no money but nobody that is able to go to the private hospital would risk that in Albania. Tldr; Get yourself health insurance in Albania, it's cheap and it might save your life.

@@wawawanderer Hi Joe, I am not familiar how it works for foreigners, you might need a second opinion from someone more qualified. As an Albanian I've used Insig and Sigal. They both offered a comprehensive coverage which also includes specialised treatment abroad in case you there isn't such treatment in Albania. My knowledge could also be out of date as I haven't lived in the country full-time for over a decade now. I've heard some insurance agencies offer special packages for expats and service in English. Good luck!
