great stuff! Love seeing stuff like this, people getting out there with these little radios

It's a brilliant little radio really. It serves me well :)

Very impressive. I'll have to see how far I can get out of mine.
@RamLaska5 жыл бұрын
Impressive that you did it with a very low battery. HTs only get their full transmit strength on a full battery.

Well spotted. I didn't notice that.

Very impressive, I've just bought a UV5R and have absolutely no knowledge of these types of radio, bought for emergency comms, just in case, can you put me in the right direction for learning please, thank you.
@OntheMicwithMike3 жыл бұрын
To be honest these radios are really meant for ham radio use, mainly. Which requires a licence.

Good stuff Mike. Who would have thought you could do that on just a couple of watts I think i will be trying Ide hill again in the future. Ray CT 2290 73

I've got the UV-3R ordered to try next, compact similar to the BF-T1 mini in size - but has 4w output power. Will try that once it comes :)

Great range over sea level. Outstanding small radio for a very small price. Is there a memory in this one, to program some frequencys into channels???? Thanks for the test. What is the transmit power from this little one???
@OntheMicwithMike6 жыл бұрын
Rocco Stafford there are 16 memory channels which is very limited. It’s not too bad, I don’t use it anymore to be honest.

I can do only 100 meter ..how can I get 1/3km for that one ?? No repeater at my place
@OntheMicwithMike3 жыл бұрын
Handhelds like these are just for short range comms. Not really worth bothering with most of the time, very limited range and power. Unless you’re able to get on high ground.

Got a set of two allready programed them, and they only work with in 100 meters between them!! What am I missing here???
@OntheMicwithMike5 жыл бұрын
Location. Biggest part of it, I’ve made a contact to another person on it on simplex who was 32 miles away but we were both on hilltops. Using half a watt. It all depends on location.

@@risingsunflagsamemeaningas7472 - These radios are UHF only, while you may be able to program in VHF frequencies with software, they will not work. The transceiver is UHF.
@risingsunflagsamemeaningas7472 Жыл бұрын
@@justicejones5025 Checked VHF operation. However, if the antenna is used continuously for VHF the transmitter will be damaged. You can send it for testing purposes. At least it's for reciver.
@ahyonvlogs4 жыл бұрын
Did u do some programming for that prior to the range test?
@OntheMicwithMike4 жыл бұрын
Yes, programmed in the 16 pmr 446 frequencies. As it uses 0.5w and a fixed antenna it meets requirements here in the UK.
@FntSquall5 жыл бұрын
hi, why should i press moni/vol to hear
@OntheMicwithMike5 жыл бұрын
Monitor is used to 'open' the squelch control momentarily. This could be for one of two reasons - 1) to set your desired volume and 2) if you're at a bit of a long range away from the person you're trying to hear, you could press 'monitor' to see if you can hear them before messing around with setting the squelch control to open. Hope that helps.
@FntSquall5 жыл бұрын
@@OntheMicwithMike thx but how can i hear it without having to let it press and without putting the squelch on 0 because the continuous noise is unbearable, I use it right next to the UV-5R and I don't have this problem with it , when I press ptt on the BF-T1 the UV-5R receives without pressing a single button but when I press ptt on the UV-5R I am obliged to stay pressed moni / vol on the BF -T1 to hear otherwise the only clue indicating a call to me is the small diode which lights up in green

@OntheMicwithMike5 жыл бұрын
Indeed it does. But range can be extended on these small radios by using them on high ground. Around town they are useless unless you’re licensed and can use repeaters. 73’
@sabinekatsavrias44225 жыл бұрын
ok well i cant get my set of two to do 0.6 of one kilometer
@OntheMicwithMike5 жыл бұрын
Around town / urban environment you won’t. They are so limited on UHF the range is less than line of sight, even less around town. Try on high ground you’ll have better luck.
@sabinekatsavrias44225 жыл бұрын
@@OntheMicwithMike yeah i was being hopeful since i live in rural suberbia in australia. Not a lot goes on here, i bet most pple dont even have internet lol :P.... also part of the distance i needed it to cover was an empty school play oval/yard thingy. Maybe mine are clones. I noticed mine came with bright orange lanyards instead of the blue named ones, and did have a small cutout inside to fit the connecting wire once you plug it to battery without it pinching, unlike all the ones ive seen online that have a problem there. Other than that they seemed identical. I dunno squat about radios and no licence so programed it to power ( high ) and stuck to chanel 1 that showed up with the prog cable. ( scared of using some channel that would get me arrested )

@mslily21143 жыл бұрын
what is the setting to get 40km range?
@OntheMicwithMike3 жыл бұрын
There is no setting, it’s location. I was on top of a hillside around 700ft above sea level so height is everything using these UHF radios.
