Hi Edmund, Having recently acquired the GT-3TP , I quite like the idea of utilising the 6x AAA rechargeable battery pack because AAA batteries are readily available pretty much anywhere. You mentioned both the BL-5 extended battery and the older BL-5L for use with the UV5R. I can't seem to find any AAA battery holders that are specific to the GT series but they are available for the UV5R. I'm wandering about the possibility of using the UV5R AAA battery holder and trimming out the notches that has been described elsewhere, with yourself having the GT3 and the BL-5L extended battery Wandering what your thoughts maybe on this idea. Could it done without looking ridiculous. Regards, Paul.

Hi. I have this very radio. Was wondering if you know if it can be programmed to dual band?

Just some thoughts from me Edmund, I love these radios, very good for the money, I have the GT-3 and GT-3TP. They do an extended antenna too the INF-661. Similar to the Nagoya 771. Have you noticed any difference in the battery? I've seen some sellers offering them but when they come they're just a regular baterry with a lead weight inside. I didn't need to modify the programming cable but the issue described on that website is there with my microphones. They work loose so I can't use a speaker mic with my GT3-TP. The power I measured on mine was as follows: VHF LOW 1.8w UHF LOW 1.6w VHF MID 6.1w UHF MID 6.0w VHF HIGH 8.0w UHF HIGH 6.5w Hope you don't mind me sharing with you. 73, de M3HHY Oh, and I love the Icom pen haha.

I bought the GT-3 just the other day. Not the Tripower, the Mk II. It arrived and the display is the normal type, light background and dark lettering.

I have the GT-3 found out it can''t be received by other brand radio (Azden). Have exact frequencies but the Azden picks up dead carrier from the GT-3. My friend is having the same problem as well. Has anyone had the similar problem.

I just cant figure out what I am doing wrong. I don't know how far the repeater is away from me or even if the radio is compatible to their repeater. I don't know anyone to help me program the radio. I just looked it up and it is like 20 miles from my house.

I like my Baofeng GT-3TP. Took a little time to learn about programming but use free Chirp software and does a good job. I think all of that Baofeng group is pretty much the same. KD9EMM

No I didn't . I have heard of a newer programming cable might work but being on a disability check, I can't afford one until check comes in on the 21st of January even then which one do you buy do you know ?

Tim Whitfield - did you found any solution of that problem? I think problem is not in cable. Without connecting any cable software makes the same (and without any error message pops up)

I've heard antennas described in terms of frequency or wavelength, never by 'Icom biros'! Seriously though, thanks for another interesting and informative video, Ed. 73, Peter G0TLU

GØTLU Hello Peter, well it was an unscripted video filmed on the spur of the moment... and I didn't have a ruler to hand!!! I have measured it and from the very bottom of the SMA connector to the very tip of the antenna measures 21.5cms. The thicker part at the bottom with the loading in it measures just over 5 centimeters. I'm still new(ish) to this amateur radio lark and am still learning about the correct units to use!! Hi there i have a number of china radios here baofeng uv5r, b580t, gt3, and a quansheng tg007. I have found these radios very good for short range coms and for the price they are indeed good value for money, a cheap start up for a newbe in amateur radio. But heres the thing front end filtering is absent and when you connect these up to an outdoor antenna they are a total washout and a waste of space. Do not purchase a cheap china radio if you want to DX they are terrible, i have tried a number of radios handies connected to an out door roof mounted x30 vhf uhf duel bander, and get the same out come every time using the 3 baofeng radios, and the quansheng 007 listening out for a distant repeater gb3dr in dorchester comes in here on a scratchy s2. Using my yeasu ft60e handy i can hear the repeater on an s2 quite audible, none of the cheap china radios will pick it up so if you want local coms these are aok if you want long range dx dont bother total waste of time money and effort get a yeasu icom or kenwood. 73 da de da mw6zan

You have to change the settings for sure, go in menu and after check here on youtube if needed, you have about 4-5 things to change that ' s it but i hope you have the same model? Never seen a GT-3 or GT-3TP sold as a police scanner, I have the 2 models and no problem at all, good luck.
