Thank you very much !

I really like the options this radio offers: 999 mem chns, SYNC feature (mainly seen on BTECH branded Baofengs). Glad to see it's available here for those that prefer it. I prefer the DW (TDR) mode. Not sure why the Menu labeled Dual Watch as D.WAIT. I can not overstate how nice it is to have the choice between SYNC mode vs DW (TDR) mode. This option needs to be on more radios. I think this radio is underrated. 999 memories is awesome. You can't have too many channels. My only gripe would be this doesn't offer BANKS (aka ZONES). I'm a traveler. Having the BANKS (Zones) function would make scanning in different cities easier. As it is, still not bad. Having the 999 chns & SYNC vs DW mode is a big step in the right direction.
@GadgetTalk4U

I agree with your comment about banks for memories. I've given that feedback to some of the folks who have offered me radios to review. Even inexpensive DMR radios have zones so it couldn't be that hard to insert into the programming. Cheers.

Great video Sir, I've been using a UV5r for some years now and found 128 channels isn't enough, especially when you use the first 80ch for UHF CB radio, and the main VHF marine Ch for boating, so I have just ordered the UV13r V2 and waiting for it to arrive, then I can expand and add more repeaters, thanks for the detailed info on the software and link for download, that will save me some issues I'm sure, By the way I'm watching from Cairns Queensland Australia and have subscribed for more videos. I found the programming from the radio keypad to be painfully difficult. You can't just change a frequency's options and save the changes. You have to delete the memory slot, and re-enter the entire channel, then save it to the available slot you created by deleting it. It also doesn't have an auto repeater mode, determining offsets and split direction. Example, there's no option I could find that will recognize a frequency as being in repeater section of the band and set the offset value by band and the +/- direction. You have to put these in manually. You are also stuck with the frequency showing instead of a name because you can only enter names in their software. Other than that, it's a nice radio at a ridiculously low price. Oh, and you may have trouble with the UART in the USB cable, as most of the cables available use the Prolific chip, which hasn't had a working driver since 2012. I'm waiting for a couple of cables with FTDI chips, so the radio can see the computer.

Uv13 is my 1st radio after I got the license. It's not perfect by any means, but it's not bad either. Good starter, especially with usb c. Now it sits in my cars glove compartment just in case. Overall, not a waste of money. And that's enough for the price.

Got mine today. Is there any software other than the P15UV for this radio? Patiently waiting for CHIRP to work on it. 999 Channels doesn't do much until you can efficiently program on it.

If they would get rid of that stupid alarm and flashlight, this would be near perfect for a cheap radio. Add a cradle charger, and ipx7 rating (there are USB-C female plugs that are ip67 rated without a cover) ... and it'd be the best inexpensive radio to ever hit the market. Some minor quirks like not being able to adjust screen brightness - I can live with that. Sync mode, and more than 128 channels is great stuff.

@notsure7874

@@cappaculla Not sure if its false advertising, but the uv-9r is ip67 supposedly. A lot of the times I think manufacturers see that usb port and either don't realize they exist, or think it's too expensive. Because they're making waterproof radios, and usb-c radios - but not waterproof usb-c radios. I'd pay the 10 bucks extra it cost for that connector.

Terrific video and presentation...informative and interesting. On this UV-13 Pro, even the speaker is better than on the UV5R. Great form factor. I could not get the software to download from the Abbree site; but, CHirP has a radio that works for programming. None of these radios seem to have the output or the battery capacity as they advertise (e.g., 10 watts is usually 5 watts). I like the USB Type C charging option for when I'm out and about. Compared to what I used to pay for dual band HT rigs in the 1980s, the price on these Baofengs is unbelievable and if you drop it in the mud, you won't scream as loudly as you would if it was your Kenwood or Icom. :)

Been a while since I have purchased a new radio so I have to ask: Are these radios locked out of GMRS/MURS channel TX? (Legality aside) I use both and having one radio vs two would be better. Unfortunately my UV5R is getting old and my UV82 no longer charges. Plus USB-C is handy.
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U 2 жыл бұрын
The FCC has clamped down on both manufacturers and sellers (like Amazon) to ensure they are not selling radios that don't conform with whatever Part of the Regs the radio is made for such as MURS or GMRS or ham. That being said, the UV-13Pro has a transmitter frequency range limitation of 144.0 to 148.0 and 420.0 to 450.0. Both MURS and GMRS fall outside that range. Fortunately these little radios are inexpensive and small so carrying more than one isn't too big an inconvenience. Note the receive range of the radio is much larger and includes both MURS and GMRS. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@GadgetTalk4U Thanks for the info. It's a shame we live in an era with stupid people and people who can't be trusted to stick to their licensed bands. Like I said I know it's not really "legal" but I do use a UV5R, but I have NEVER gone outside of, or used too much power on the GMRS and MURS bands. I'm looking at the GM15 Pro for GMRS and the RB38V for MURS right now.

@@greyshadow9498 I get your point. Sometimes I think it I less about stupid users amd more about bureaucrats collecting power. Anyway, consider the new Radioddity MU 5 MURS radio. Same radio as the GM 15 and GM 30 just loaded with MURS firmware. With lots of programmable recieve only channels it's quite versatile. With my affiliate link to Radioddity, two would be close to the cost of the Retevis pair. There's a review on my channel. Link in the description. Cheers.

Programming channels from the radio's face plate can be confusing and a challenge. That's one reason I nearly always program my radio using the CPS or Chirp. To type in frequencies directly you need to be in VFO mode. On this radio you need to press and hold the Menu key to enter VFO mode. When you're done press and hold again to go back to channel mode. Check out menu item 19 for your scanning question. The radio will scan both depending on what mode you're in - I think. I'm not a big scanning guy. 73

Menu 7 controls the dual watch function. If on, whatever channel that has the most recent activity becomes the main channel. If the channel doesn't have transmit permissions, it won't transmit and you'll have to use the Exit key to change the main channel. Some radios allow setting the main channel when in Dual Watch mode. I don't think this one does.

Not sure I understand the question. You don't really change bands. Just program in the frequency you want and if it is in the coverage window, it will work - VHF or UHF.
