I just got a UV9R, it’s my first ham radio and I’m still trying to figure it out but it’s great

From what I've seen 'duplex off' makes the radio listen only, think that's why it didn't transmit. Still learning this radio myself.

I have this one and the S9 for a cheap radio to keep in the car. Very informative and witty as usual Freddie.😂👍

May be good up to 30 ft underwater, but have you ever tried to talk at 30ft? It's not easy 😂😂😂😂!! I have a few of the GMRS versions of this for use with my grandsons, it's a pretty good CCR.

Thanks for the video. I bought one of these a few days ago (price was too low to resist...literally no risk) and it's ok, except it seems to be quite deaf RX on 2m. I'm going to keep messing with it, try it with different antennas. Anyway, good stuff. Fellow Okie here. :)

Have you looked at the squelch settings in the Chirp Service Menu? They can be set independently for VHF and UHF. Lower numbers lower the squelch threshold. It made a difference in my 9Rpro which I do not find to be the most sensitive Baofeng on the shelf.

Did you know if you type Baofeng into google translate, it says "storm" in English.

Question. I’ve just purchased a uv-9r pro V2 as advertised, and was sent a V1. Do you know what the differences between V1 and V2 are? That said, they are so cheap it’s not worth sending it back from UK anyway.
@HamRadioCrusader
@HamRadioCrusader 7 ай бұрын
Not 100% sure if all the differences but I think it’s just the C-Type battery charging.

If I want to go live wild in the Highlands of Scotland would you recommend something like this, (Unlicenced, TX in emergency only) or would a pmr466 suffice? I intend to use solar/wind/hydro to begin with for electricity. powerbanks for now, 12v car block later.
@HamRadioCrusader
@HamRadioCrusader 7 ай бұрын
I would recommend this radio over pmr466 just for better wattage output and it has a more sensitive receiver.

@@HamRadioCrusader I'm still watching this as you reply so thank you for a very fast response, I was 95% sold on it being the 'right tool' for my purposes so you've reassured me and it's in the basket, antenna upgrade down the line. Thank you again marra, Merry Christmas to you and yours. 👍

I have the uv 9r plus. I love how it looks and feels, but it has horrible recieve and transmit. Only good for a couple miles.

I am gradually figuring that out. The speaker could be a little better too. But what did I except for $36 Bucks 😉

I was going to get one for hiking on cloudy possibility rainy days but I can’t force myself to do it because of that terrible belt clip design. I clip my radio to the front of my hydration pack shoulder straps

I have to agree with you. I am NOT liking this swivel belt clip. It has already un-clipped itself from the swivel twice!!

Any issues with battery not seating properly? Although electrical contact was made between the radio body and battery, the 1/32" gap at the bottom is a pretty good indicater of not being waterproof, to whatever depth. Same problem on two purchases, both of which were refunded. In its defense though, the radio(s) did feel good in my hand.

I’ll have to investigate that and report back

I’ve taken a closer look and the battery on mine is solid. Shake test was very rugged. But it’s not budging.

Update: I neglected to mention that I purchased three from Amazon. The two I found issue with were delivered to my hotel when I was away from home, the third was delivered to my house, after I left, but before I started my 'road purchases'. When time allowed, I evaluated the one sent to my home, and I found the battery to be an excellent fit. Unfortunately, I do not know the sellers who dealt with Amazon. I'll have to check my order list there. Again, the radio has a very solid feel, and the transmit and receive capabilities are commendable for a low end item. A verified contact in Troy, PA from my place in Carbondale, PA has a rough distance of 88.5 mils to the repeater. That is taking advantage of my location at 1852' above sea level, Diamond antenna, and whatever High Power is for that radio. A subsequent test today (1/19/2024) with the radio connected to my Tram mag-mount antenna produced an additional contact during my test, and a significant improvement in transmit and receive clarity. Will I ever need the water proof aspect? That's doubtful; Id rather have a fixed belt clip, than that swinging thing that's included.... (KC3VXP) @@HamRadioCrusader

@@fbrieden I am not caring for the swivel clip either. It’s highly unreliable.

It is not waterproof, barely splash resistant, and is built like a toy. The RF side is no upgrade being little different from the UV-5r.
