When you open up the antenna with some tools, you will find a very thin and bendable main antenna inside. So the thicker outside is really only for show.

will this actually TRANSMIT on GMRS? ive had my eye on this radio but i heard it only transmit on HAM.. i know its frowned upon but since i have both ham and GMRS license i tend to look at radios capible of transmitting on BOTH.. Thanks!
