"A place in him that had been closed like a fist was open,''' Indeed, new beginnings in the middle of life! Thank you once more, dear Fr. Denis, Alessandro, Natalie and Rachel, for this lovely Garden Mass. Thank you for the homily, reminding us that it was St. John the Baptist who was the point where the old Jesus of Nazareth, living his life hidden away, as a carpenter's son was now ready to start a new beginning: His public ministry preaching the Good News, enabled by the Holy Spirit. We can only think about our own new beginnings with humility and love, strengthened by God's love. Thank you indeed for Edward Field's poem, "A Journey," an epiphany that could really change our lives!

Many thanks, Alice, as always, for your kindness and support. Working in Hawkstone Hall for 21 years, where we offered residential courses for priests and sisters, I was always fascinated when people reflected on the question: "Given who you are today, where did that story start?" The answers were fascinating and utterly different for each person: some people's lives only got going in the middle of life.
