Still one of the greatest underdog stories of all time!!! Lucky enough to have gotten to meet the REAL Rudy himself at a private screening of the film. He also did a one-man show on Broadway in 2019. Seriously one of the warmest, kindest, and moving people that I've ever met. Rudy inspires all of us to work hard and dream big no matter what people will say. One of my lifelong goals is to be a performer on Broadway. He told me to keep at it. One of my biggest dream projects is wanting to tell RUDY as a full-scale musical on Broadway and play him on stage. Seriously need those rights to make it happen.

Rudy is a wholly unlikeable character; self-absorbed and self-centered. He doesn't care about anyone, or anything, except Notre Dame football, and it's actually really sad to watch everyone else enable him throughout the movie. He didn't care about studying in HS, until he's told he can't go on a ND campus tour just to gawk over the football team. Someone does him a favor to get him into junior college - but he doesn't care about the education he receives there, because all he cares about is transferring to Notre Dame. He even says it in the movie, that since Notre Dame doesn't accept senior transfers, it's all been for nothing if he doesn't get in as a junior. Someone offers to tutor him to help him keep his grades up - and when this so-called friend is moving across the country, on his last day there, does he focus on the friend? No, he's too busy pouting in his room because Notre Dame has a new football coach and what about the promise the old coach made to him? He gets a job he's not qualified for to help him pay for it, and his boss lets him sleep there for free (which he doesn't have to do). And after all that, after everything everyone has done to help him get into the University of Notre Dame - because unlike Rudy, they know it is actually a University, not just a football team - this is his way of saying thanks. "I didn't get to play football, so who cares about the rest of it?"

I completely disagree with you. He’s a very likable protagonist that you root for. Nobody enabled his dream. His whole family and support group with the exception of Pete were very antagonistic towards his dreams. He gets help along the way from people who value his dream. That’s not enabling, giving someone a place to live as a barren necessity resource so he can accomplish a goal is not .The field maintenance guy was a former player who love Notre Dame football deep down in his heart and connected with Rudy on that level, and there was good depth and character development in that writing. Rudy might be immature and not value the holy cross education for two years but why would he? His family didn’t give a shit about education. He’s the first one to go to college. No one taught him that until the maintenance guy gave him guidance. He’s self made and people who are insecure call that egocentric and self absorbed. You would probably say that about anyone with a goal who is obsessed with it then.

@@AshadowsShadow I completely agree with 90s. I am a Catholic and a "Cradle Catholic" at that and I found Rudy's obsession with the University of Notre Dame to be creepy and very weird. I am an alum of Indiana University, and I truly love IU, but I am not going to sacrifice the lives of other people or my own life over IU.

Probably true @@TheRmm1976. It baffled me how Rudy's dad seemed to be more pissed at him than Frank. When you break down the scene, Rudy didn't really do anything. He was trying to keep the peace. He should've been more upset with Frank. With that being said, their dad is not giving Frank a pass either by saying, "Don't nothing ever change?"
