For those who don’t know what the this song is about, for 23 years the South Africa fought a war in what is now Namibia but back then was apart of South Africa and was called south west Africa, it was a former German colony taken in world war 1 by the British and was run as a province by the home government of South Africa, in 1966 SWAPO was formed as an independence movement for south west African and was supplied with weapons from the Soviet Union and started fighting South Africa in 1966, at some point the South Africans tracked SWAPOs to there base in Ovamboland and destroyed it, the remaining fighters fled to Angola and link up with the MPLA and get heavier weapons from the Soviets, from there their new base would be set up by MPLA and from there SWAPO would routinely cross the border to fight the South Africans, as well as recruit and train new members, this caused the South Africans to also routinely cross the border to destroy SWAPO as well as fight the MPLA with UNITA, I’m not gonna cover the entire war but it went on until 1990 when the south west Africa got its independence with SWAPO as the ruling party and foreign powers leaving the conflict such as the Soviets and Cuban

I am American of Italian and Portuguese Azores ancestry. Many in My family have fought for the US and a couple awarded for Valor. My Italian Grandfather was a decorated Italian Soldier who fought and escaped being captured at Adwa in 1896. I love all this South African and Rhodesian History and Music. I like music and song about real Hero’s who fight real battles for their survival. The Kenny Rodger’s Nashville version is about a phuc ng game of cards. A game that no one is forced to play. It’s about wanting to be cool and a celebrity. I meet good hardworking Christian Blacks from different African Countries who come to the U.S. to escape the dystopia their former homelands have become under Communist Socialist Rule. They tell Me of the beauty and also of being Kidnapped and escape from being raped by the soldiers of dictator’s and nefarious leader’s who have beguiled western diplomat’s and media. To Me anyone who fought the divisiveness of Communist Socialism on the African Continent is a Hero in or out of uniform. The U.S.A.was fortunate to have a world power like France to Help win its Independence. Those in Rhodesia and those fighting communism in South Africa did not have that. They fought under the Most adverse conditions in History
