Thanks Paul, a lot of us take a keen interest in the metro but aren't able to visit all the sites. Your Vlogs are both archival, and a video aerogramme to those "across the miles".

As soon as I got onto KZbin I just knew this video would be ready and waiting to greet me. Another absolutely fantastic presentation. This site looks very sophisticated, it's amazing how a metro station evolves from this! That action with the pre-cast concrete roof section being lowered into place was absolutely fascinating! Very lucky to be in the right place at the right time!

Thank you Paul. I am gob smaked by the enormity of this part of the Metro project. From earlier reports, there is a huge challenge of nature insofar as the pressure of the harbour water is counter acted by a lot of engineering "magic" to prevent the whole box which is submerged many metres below water level from rising up. Bravo to the engineers and constructers. Pleasae keep us informed in your very adept way of presentation.

Good work Paul. Once again they are moving forward with the construction of the Barangaroo Metro Railway Station. I am looking forward to using the Sydney Metro to go there when it's opened sometime in 2023 to 2024... Go Barangaroo!

Bit of guesswork with this one, but I think those things protruding from the end of the Super T girders are ducts for post-tensioning strands. When normally reinforced concrete beams are loaded from above, the bottom edge acts in tension (not good for concrete). To compensate, steel strands are fed through ducts toward the bottom edge of the beam and then locked off at one end. They are then pulled (tensioned) extremely tightly and locked off at the other end, thus squeezing the concrete on the bottom edge of the beam into compression (good for concrete). When a post-tensioned beam is loaded from above, the bottom edge stays in compression. Super T girders are definitely tensioned, I'm just not sure whether they are pre-tensioned (in the factory) or post-tensioned (on site). If it's the former ignore everything you've just read!
@stephengentle2815
@stephengentle2815 3 жыл бұрын
They are definitely tensioning strands, but I think those kind of beams are pre-tensioned. Not 100% but fairly sure. I think post-tensioning strands for something that size would normally be in about two or three bunches of strands each in a circular pattern on a flange (whereas pre-tensioning I think the wires are tensioned against a metal plate that is part of the form, that the beam is removed from once the tension in the strands is released). As for why they’re still there I suppose they just leave the strands in and tie them into the rest of the reinforcement?
@TransportVlog
@TransportVlog 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for this extra information, especially the points about tensioning. This certainly makes more sense to me now.

@@stephengentle2815 they are prestressed. Strand extends into the in situ support (yet to be cast)

Thanks for the video Paul hope someone with knowledge of the site helps you out. New walkway looks great and getting plenty of visitors. At10:30 workers walking under suspended load. Poor WH&S practice on a major work site. Sad to see workers doing so.

those workers are directly involved in the lift and are looking up at it. avoiding having to walk under might have been difficult. from the perspective of us viewers it seemed more dangerous than it was. i have done some of this sort of work.

That was really interesting Paul, thanks for posting. Do you know whether the red steel girders at the top are temporary or part of the permanent structure?
@fckyoutub
@fckyoutub 3 жыл бұрын
The red girders are a temporary steel structure to support Hickson road. They were installed prior to the station excavation. When you drive on Hickson road, the station excavation is directly underneath you. It will be removed after the station is complete.

Paul. All these new underground railway stations, I think would have to have, emergency fire escape staircases, that would need to be fire proof, and separate from the rest of the structure. In Bangaroo's case its been centrally placed.

The link between Tallawong and St Mary's is most important. This missing link should be built asap. As it will provide for a second link to Penrith. This link is vital to reduce the congestion on the western train line for commuters.
