Thank you Paul. This is a far more useful video explanation for commuters than the endless back-patting TforNSW videos that contains no information for busy commuters at all.

Interesting hearing your reference as "ghost trains", as while testing the Metro would be completely empty. Maybe "haunted trains" may even be a better description!!! LOL.

We absolutely need to increase the trains to every 2 minutes. I get that this is day one, but the train at peak hour was packed even on a very peripheral station in the north west today. There were queues just to get out of the station at the ticket gates, and the road outside was congested with vehicles picking up passengers (some cars probably had to turn away and return due to a clogged road)

How will the service be after the bankstown extension, maybe a few years after that, when demand will increase further? Wouldn't it make sense to have peak services which turn back before the end of the line? Example: trains at least every 4 minutes on the whole line, trains every 2 minutes in the core section
@TransportVlog
@TransportVlog 4 күн бұрын
Hi Nicolas, Yes turning back services would make sense, as long as the turnback manoeuvres don't reduce capacity. There are turnback junctions at Campsie, and also at Castle Hill, Bella Vista and quite a few other places on the NW metro.

Hi Paul, thanks for another great video. Incidentally, have you been able to ride on any of the test ghost Metros? apparently, someone has managed a trip, as I saw a KZbin videoed trip from Chatswood to Sydenham. Not sure how they managed it. All the stations were fenced off at the time and the only area possible to get on and off was Chatswood to Tallawong. interesting you mention about the Wollongong trains not stopping at Sydenham. They did years ago, as I remember my dad and I catching a Wollongong train from Sydenham back in the 1970s. I am wondering if the Metro extension to Sydenham and the Parramatta light rail will open on the same day. If they do, it may be a bit of a rush to catch both the openings. Just of interest, the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project will include screen doors on he stations, despite the trains having drivers. Also, on a recent trip to Box Hill, I notice work was happening on the new Box Hill SRL station. Just thinking, if they decided to speed up all the station escalators to 100kph there, they may no longer even need the Metro!!! LOL. You mentioned about the P&O Building being demolished. My dad actually used to work there many years ago. My dad even did an audio tape recording in his office inside the P&O Building back in 1968, which includes the sounds of the office Muzak system playing, other workers typing and even the tea lady arriving with the morning tea. Absolutely amazing stuff to hear these days. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

What exactly do you think will happen with traveler behaviour with Chatswood?
@TransportVlog
@TransportVlog 5 күн бұрын
People will transfer from the Sydney Trains services on platform 1 to the metro on platform 2, rather than the other way around. And that's because, the metro is quicker than the train for destinations in North Sydney and CBD. At the moment, its the other way around, with metro trains terminating at Chatswood and passengers crossing over to platform 1. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks John, keeping things factual and unbiased has been a key thing for me right from the start. I will make occasional suggestions such as having a station at Claremont Meadows, but that's unusual!

Hi everyone, as a result of the Sydney Metro City Extension now opening on Monday 19th August, there will now not be a part 2! Instead I'll be doing a video capturing all the excitement of the opening day, and then more over the next few weeks, including in-depth videos on Crows Nest and Gadigal stations.

How does one travel from the CBD to Macquarie Park after the last metro around 10:30 pm? Does the transit agency allow photos at platform level? No information regarding photography policies is on the agency website. An email to NSW Government transit agency was not answered.

Last metro from the CBD will be generally 11:59pm on weekday nights, and 1:29am on Fri and Sat nights. The recent early finishes were to assist with testing and trial running. Its generally fine to take photos and video on metro stations, although if metro staff ask you not too, then you should comply with their request.

Really looking forward to the City Metro extension opening. I live near Wollongong and at the moment it can take anywhere up to three hours to get to Chatswood via bus and train. Once the extension opens it'll only take two hours.
