Hi Kuya Kurt! Just stumbled upon one of your videos the other day, the one when you had dinuguan and pork stick(steak). I got hooked! I've been living in Ireland for the past 17 years along with my wife and two girls who were both born here. Watching your videos is so refreshing and informative, especially for us who hasn't been home for 10 years now. I can honestly say you will be BIG! when I say big as in famous like those other food vloggers because you speak perfect Tagalog! You will never run out of ideas because there is tons of stuff you need to explore in the Philippines, like Fiestas and other things. We will be watching your journey and keep it up Kuya Kurt! Stay safe!

I’m quite late in catching today’s vlog because my regular caller, an 86-year-old woman who loves to chat for over an hour, called earlier than usual. I can never say no to her. Nevertheless, I really enjoy your insights on living and vlogging in the Philippines, your spontaneous conversations with strangers, and the interesting historical tidbits you share. Your content is very informative. I feel like I will get lost in a maze with all those streets and corners. It’s like a puzzle! I’m not sure I can scroll through that on my own because I might never find my way back home. 😆

The term “tummy tums” doesn’t have a direct translation in Tagalog, but if you’re referring to a playful or childlike way of saying “tummy,” you can use “tiyan” or “tummy” itself, as it’s often understood. For example, you might say “masakit ang tiyan” for “tummy hurts. I remember my childish way of saying it when I wanted attention and affection: I would say "a-sakit a-tiyan ko," and "a-sakit ulo ko," so I could receive hugs and kisses, and then get the food I wanted. 😆

@@tagalogkurt Ang tawag diyan ay "para-paraan lang yan" 😆 The term “para-paraan” in Filipino generally means finding ways or being resourceful. It refers to the act of coming up with creative or alternative methods to achieve a goal or solve a problem.

That seems to be a Filipino thing to fake sickness to get the attention of someone. My brother was notorious for that growing up 😂. There are 10 kids in the family, and he often fake being sick when he is feeling KSP (Kulang Sa Pansin) from my Mom. He sure gets all the snacks and the soda (Royal Tru Orange). Mom went along with it, knowing he is faking it.

In our barangay, information spreads quickly even without smartphones. Just tell one or a few people, like the pandesal vendor, and soon everyone will know. We can trace our lineage by looking at the history of our ancestors from great-grandparents. So, if someone wants to know who I am, I will just say the name of my grandparents. Despite our small population, our barangay has specific programs for each group of residents. There are separate groups for seniors, women, men, farmers, and youth. The spirit of bayanihan and cooperation is still very much alive in our community.

Many places in Cavite are named after trees that were once abundant in the area, such as Manggahan, Langkaan, Sampalok, and Indang. My hometown, Indang, was part of Silang until seven decades ago. On December 1, 1655, it was officially declared a separate municipality by the local government. Our barangay is named after the Banaba tree, now known as Banaba Cerca. Each barangay has its own unique words and accent in Tagalog. During the Philippine Revolution, Indang earned the nickname ‘Walang Tinag’ (Immovable). It was part of the Magdiwang faction of the Katipunan, which was led by Andres Bonifacio, the Supremo. This was in contrast to the Magdalo faction, which was led by General Emilio Aguinaldo.

@@sweetmorenaduring the summer breaks, we stayed with our lola in Indang for a couple of weeks when we were, 8, 9, 10 years old. Nice to meet you here, Sweet Morena!

@@marycruz2122 Wow, nice to meet you here Mary! Finally, someone who can relate to the place where I grew up. I was raised by my grandmother since I was a baby, so all my good memories are in that place. I think you're ready to visit remote barangays in Pinas. Try Lucena, Lucban, or Sariaya in Quezon province. And take public transportation. Why? Because there are vendors who climb the bus to sell local specialties like puto Biñan in Laguna or budin from Quezon. Pansit habhab sinugno, ginatang langka, etc are also a must try,. Batangas and Laguna are also great to visit....

@@tagalogkurt HI, Kurt! Perhaps on your next visit to Manila, try to showcase the magnificent sunset over Manila Bay on your vlog. Please check out Roxas Boulevard, it’s a popular waterfront promenade in Metro Manila. The boulevard, which runs along the shores of Manila Bay, is well known for its sunsets and stretch of coconut trees. It’s easy to get caught up in the sweltering heat of the city, not to mention the painful commute during rush hour. But maybe once in a while, it's also okay to stop, look up, and appreciate the “Golden Hour,” when the sun paints dreamy hues over the sky as it sets. Sunset over Manila Bay generally falls anytime between 5:41 PM and 5:54 PM every day. We hope you’d be able to witness the world’s famous Manila Bay’s sunset when you get back to the Philippines. 🌇🌅☀️🌞🌞🌞❤❤
