I was there in 1975. Came home and former North player Bryan Martyn RIP (Mick’s dad) arrived to celebrate. We went into to the North social club & had an amazing night. 48 years later North’s first premiership remains one of the best times of my life after growing up with season after season of defeat. You had to be there. It is beyond description. RIP Ron Barassi, recently deceased but you gave us something that money couldn’t buy.

I love the story of how North got Doug Wade. Some years later Geelong got some prettier decent North players Leigh Tudor, McGrath, Liam Pickering, Cam Mooney

I am VERY FRUSTRATED!!!! I have decided that my childhood hero, JOHN RANTAL, has to be one of the LEAST PHOTOGRAPHED of all the most respected VFL/AFL players, IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME. * How many times was he named in this doco - at least 20, if not 30 times - and l saw a whole 2 or 3 flash shots of him - in the background - in 2 hrs of viewing????? * It was the same throughout his career. I can remember so often intently watching his games, waiting to see shots of his play, and only rarely getting a glimpse of him. So very maddening * JOHN was my hero, BEFORE he played with the VFL. I was a nervous 6 or 7 yrs old, at a new school, and had a long bus ride home, on some pretty scary roads, each day. John would have been 17yrs old, and he was my Bus Caption. He was a really kind person, who made me feel totally safe, even when we had to stop, or detour, because of floods or fire. I have vivid memories of how he managed us, keeping us calm. Very special memories.

In another video Ron Barassi suggests in a funny way that he was a bit of a loner.

He liked a drink....half a dozen Longnecks of beer of a Friday night...But he was smart. Would go to the Drive~In where no~one recognized or bothered him.incognito.. But he obviously could handle it...Cool customer under pressure

No, I didn't . But my best mate's dad (dec'd) told me all about him. A tough, fair and incredibly skilful player. He took the best mark in 1974 Grand Final on members wing..

How good is this?? Football gold. Many thanks to Rohan Connelly who highlighted on SEN Hungry for Sport on Tuesday morning of its existence. Cheers Rohan!! Oh yes, as a Hawks fan did we get robbed in '75? Seems like it. Rules flouted left right and centre.

@@noahnolanzimmerman3094Your grandfather will always be remembered at NMFC. Those 1975 premiership players are legends & always will be. Barassi said this back then & it’s fact. I saw him play in many matches and he was a bloody great player in that era. Gone but not forgotten.
