Barbara Brown Taylor is an Episcopal priest, teacher, and bestselling author of fourteen books on religion and spirituality, including Leaving Church, An Altar in the World and Learning to Walk in the Dark, which was featured on the cover of Time magazine and named one of the best religion books of 2014 by Publisher’s Weekly. She has served on the faculties of Piedmont College, Columbia Theological Seminary, Candler School of Theology at Emory University, McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University, and on the Certificate in Theological Studies program at Arrendale State Prison for Women in Alto, Georgia. She has been recognized by Baylor University as one of the top twelve preachers in America, and in 2015, she was named Georgia Woman of the Year. Her latest book, Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others, will be published in April 2019.

One of the best books that I have read to date, ordered another one in large print to reread as soon as it arrives passing my other book on to someone else to enjoy. Listened to her NPR coverage Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others also watched this video with the same enthusiasm and would love to take her Religion 101 class.

Your thoughts are about my 'journey' across asia, africa -- based in thailand for the last 20 years! I have pretty much decided that my crossing the door steps of a church again, was pretty much over! But your 'example' has restored my hope --- in the church again.

Awesome speaker. Thanks for sharing this video. I’m originally from St. Paul, MN. If I still lived there I would be a regular at your gatherings. Instead, I live in Seattle, WA. ... the none zone. I’m currently reading this book as part of my churches Spirited Women (book club): 20+ women who have gathered weekly for nearly 20 years, in the basement of an Lutheran church (ELCA). The book is amazing. I wish I could take her class: Religion 101. Excellent Q&A. She tackled difficult questions skillfully.

Holy envy... Spiritually speaking, the Jain tradition is more holistic than the Christian tradition. The teaching of ahimsa (do no harm, do no violence, the total lack of desire to harm another) includes nonhuman animals as well as human ones. Actually, it includes all living things on the planet. This is more consistent than the Christian teaching that says "love your neighbor" unless, of course, your neighbor is not a member of the human species (this is how it seems to be practiced by a large majority of Christians - It is, sadly, also very arrogant). A question I started living in last year (2020): Spiritually speaking, what does it mean to be in right relationship with myself, with other humans, with nonhuman animals, and the planet itself? Anything that focuses so much on humans, puts humans on a pedestal, lifts them up in some high and mighty arrogant way is much too small a spiritual path to be on. This is my take. "Thy kingdom come" includes every single thing in the universe, the cosmos. Do no harm in a holistic consistent way. So, yeah, going back to the Jain tradition... Total holy envy!

True neighbor is person sitting by my side / definition... But I don't want anymore planetary scale, but it is not truth. I want and I need planetary scale. But if to transfer this scale into universal one, where everything shall unveil itself, where whole races will suddenly appear and my granddaughter says something, and whether I hear something else than she really is saying, or something did prevent me already from being father, but it is also not truth. Multiple not. Dual things goin around at the same time. Make this boredom split off, maybe it will take some shape or something, I don't know... I am so tired now and was barely watching this video with open eyes... My audio-impressions sounded well enough, maybe a tempo the speech was with was going too fast, maybe I don't get so high gist and importance of so much irony in it. Though the audience was having fun. Let me jump between those grammar times, I have never been into USA or UK, or U2, or UPS... (my own sense of irony_ First I had to understand here writing this comment why me my-self, whole humankind, or our civilizations with all those religious views: adeistic, pandeistic, satanic, id est, why we all live in imaginery world of fantasy, dreams, delusions when and also where everything always is about to seem differently than it is. And I also think about that for my own way of doing things they don't change so simply... it is really hard for anyone what to do and so hard to know exactly what choice to make, what sort of source of information get "this time" and another time to count them all in number. Enumerated examples was shown to me, (by my-self)... Therapists made me egotic... Robert L. Moore I am reading lately gives me many answers about sacred space, containment, rituals, spiritual processes.... And I think the answer for white supremacy is just simple sexy thing that is called "mind-fuck", but it is easy to understand I think through what is done and is being tele-observed by others these physical ''here and now'' situations look like boring, so we make crimes, make extreme sex, stupid things, and keep it attractive... aside of having been sacrificed by one's own suffering made by so much efforts, work, and patience that it will soon get me shielded off and it maybe will get me shielded off in either nationalistic idea of national identity this time what is indeed takes us all throughout CoVid-19. Psychologists have power in their minds to convey and lead the way for social mentality, they need and they have to deepen their knowledge for benefits of others. Multiple religions aren't crystalline. Being interested in many religions won't take my mind cut off, but it can surely help me find what is the point now this comment has. Whatever...
