She's simply the best, although Miles Davis told us there's not such a thing like THE BEST among artists, but AMONG the best. But on Hammond, I don't see another who's capable to play with such rithm, elegance, feeling, beauty.

Most musicians in a band play off each other, communicating visually-a glance here, a nod there... She is so intense, she rarely looks up. She reads the other players by some sixth sense. Maybe (to paraphrase Tommy) by sense of smell.

Did you hear that bassline beginning at 0:23?!? Yep...There is no bass guitar on stage, just that wonderful feet work on pedals!! At the time she was already excellent and blossoming...Today she's a "virtuosa" on organ and those feet are still on fire!! Jimmy Smith is happy,sure, but she have her own path!! Waitin' for her next jazz standard composition... ;-)

Charlie Parker or Charlie Christian.? I think that I heard Air mail special. Then it has to be Charlie Christian.

I wonder how she would play without her feet. Being able to afford a bass player :-) and knowing that her concentration would be dedicated to her hands. Amazing talent and super nice person too.
@therealborischang7 жыл бұрын
Perhaps playing bass helps her find her groove in a way that a separate bass player wouldn’t let he as easily do.

That fake synthesized double bass totally kills it for me :( Amazing playing, though!
@ZakiWasik11 жыл бұрын
Yeah she plays with the bass pedals, but she has hooked it up to a midi-module with a double-bass sound and unfortunately sampled double-bass sounds from that period tends to suck pretty badly.
@felixstinson672011 жыл бұрын
It's the playing that's important here, comrade.....don't be such a snob....She's fabulous, my friend.....if you didn't see it, you probably wouldn't know the difference....Chill out and enjoy the great Barbara Dennerlein.....

She plays better bass with those pedals than a lot of bass players do with their fingers.
