23:25 what happened was a lot more newer SMM(2 mainly) players came to romhacks, and the 'indication meta' came over from them. As you know, playing a kaizo in SMM2 these days can be done pretty much by reading an indication language.

The thing about Pokémon is that it's supposed to be accessible to children who've never played a Pokémon game before, and a hard mode would have to be completely optional

I feel like Pokemon should have a hard mode exactly as much as Dark Souls should have an easy mode. Personally, I'd be in favor of both. While there is a valid argument to be made about artistic vision, you can''t really say the latter shouldn't have an easy mode with that argument (really the only reason that isn't snobbery or gatekeeping). Please note I'm talking generally; I don't know Barb's opinion on the the topic. In the end, both are giving more options to the player, and arguably both are accessibility options as well. The latter definitely is, and the former is as well; making it more accessible to people who are veterans and want a meatier (or any) challenge. Boredom is a flipside to frustration.

Barb you should start rating hacks at the end or make a video rating hacks. Like how Dave portnoy does pizza, rating the hacks on a scale would be awesome. Not just difficulty but all around. Level designs, atmosphere, flow, trick design, overworld, trolls etc. Coming from one of the best Mario content creators and level designers it'd be fun to watch and get more of an insight why x,y,z in your opinion is better or what not. Just and idea. Love the hack content thanks!

I love how at agdq way back when Mitch ran GPW2, Pooh and Mitch were really stroking Barb’s ego for what was such an unbelievable hack, truly one of a kind, incredible quality of life details and aesthetics.. and barb was eating it all up. And all these other hacks, (which I’d say are much more detailed, very aesthetically pleasing, better qol, great transitions and incredible additional tech and sprites) barb basically just says he only notices the bad ones otherwise he’s just meh. Jealousy barb? I feel like barb has developed such an insane ego. I mean he complains about too many subs / donations, is just so freaking disrespectful and rude to those who financially support him, and complains about hacks and trolls and these things that are littered throughout his own hack.. good lord barb is the Kaizo equivalent to Phil Fish. So thankful I’ve never given him a cent. He’d probably just call me a dick for donating to him.

For pokemon, even just having trainers level scale off your strongest would be enough. Trainer typers (kids to ace trainers) could have their pokemon be like... -3 levels from your highest (for kids) and +5 for Ace. That in turn would punish the players for just making one pokemon overleveld compared to the rest of the team. Could keep the wild pokemon as they are (just scale based on the zone they were in). The Gym Leaders could be +1 level per rank of gym.. so first Gym would be +1 level of your highest, and the 8th gym be +8 levels of your highest. Elite 4+ champ could start at +10 levels with Champ being +15 levels -they also can break level cap-. That alone without AI improvements could be a huge game changer for making hard pokemon difficulty.
