I notice that about lathering too, some youtube channels spend over 10 minutes building a lather & meticulously painting their faces & that forces them to use canned foam most of the other days just to save time but if you watched very old shaving videos or how your grandfathers shaved they were so quick & efficient they built a lather & were painting it on in seconds they wasted no time worrying about water to soap ratios

You've revived my interest in shaving. Had a beard for about a year and went clean shaven recently. Really embracing that peak Americana look recently. a shaved face is a civilized face, as opposed to barbarism. But it all ties into the current state of society and how we place ourselves within that. It feels like there is a time for both. a time for peace, and a time for war, if you will.

Just a heads up, Austin antique mall on McCann drive is closing permanently in May. I was there yesterday and purchased some nice vintage razors (Gillette red tip, valet auto strop, Schick injector, and some Gems). They were all either 20%/50% off the marked prices. I would come home for lunch during school and watch him before I was dropped back to school. I still watch him evey now and then. Definitely an amazing painter.

Three passes with a barbasol floating head razor and a thin lather? You've got some big clankers. Don't hurt anyone with those. Badger brushes work great with creams lathered in a bowl, or extremely soft soaps. Not so much the rest of the gamut. I don't have the patience either. I want my lather NOW! I always have some barbasol, but I've also been using proraso canned foam lately. Good stuff. Mild menthol. You may like it.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen you review the Henson? I’m new to safety razors and bought a Rockwell 6c and a Henson. I’m learning and each shave is a little less destructive. Haha. I think starting with the Henson is the way to go for now. Have you ever used it? I can’t find any videos of you using it. Thanks and Happy Easter! God Bless.

It must be kind of nice to have lighter colored beard hairs. I could never get away with skipping two days of shaving without looking very disheveled lol. My beard is already poking through my fair skin by lunchtime every day and it’s a noticeable shadow.

Love watching your videos! What straight razor do you recommend with someone with sensitive skin? I am very new to the straight razor and I bought one on Amazon about a year ago with the Viking Blade double edge safety razor but unfortunately it gave me niks and cuts. I watched plenty of the KZbin videos including yours on how to properly shave with one, but I guess the blade was just too harsh on my skin and I don't think it had an adjustable setting on it for the blade. I am tired of spending $24 on the cartridge razor refills and wanted a cheaper option with the straight razor blades. Looking forward to your comment or any other people that may have a recommendation!

Funny you synthetic brush lovers. I experience the complete opposite, I have a more rough time with the synthetic brushes. I struggle a lot to get them to open, they just feel like a brush that is too stiff and was never broken in. I own 3 synthetic brushes, a tuxedo knot, plisson knot and a syntex knot.

I agree with you regarding natural bristle brushes. They eat your lather up!

Some do and some not so much. These luxury top end Badger bristle brushes which are very wide and densely packed will tend to eat your later. A more moderate brush like the Semogue SOC in badger or mystera (a blend of badger and boar) do not tend to eat up lather, IME. These brushes have knots that are taller and not as wide at the base This facilitates the flow and release of the lather. I use my Semogue SOC badger as my goto for face lathering. Someday I will get a decent synthetic brush, such as a Simpson Trafalgar 2, and then I will be able to compare lather eating from experience. I do like that synthetics dry much faster than natural bristles. That would be a huge plus IMO.

YMMV. Some blades are short lived and some are longer lived. I get 3 shaves out of an Astra SP. I get a huge number of shaves out of a Wizamet iridium. When the shave get's tuggy, I bin the blade and get a fresh one. Some people like to use a fresh blade with every shave. I am too cheap for that. There is a fellow here on YT who has a blade with over 350 shaves on it.

Probably best to look in the online forums for a Barbasol DE razor. There weren't a lot of these made compared to Gilletts razors. There was a variant of Barbasol razor that is far more efficient than this more common mild shaver. It is highly coveted. Etsy might be one place to look, if you are patient. But, a WTB posting on one of the shave forums is probably the best bet.
