As soon as he said "I can't move, my feet are stuck in the mud". Immediately I realized how lucky they are to not have to worry about Rattle Snakes, Cotton Mouths, Mountain Lions or Bears. Gosh where I fish if I ever got my feet stuck and couldn't take off within a split second I would be flipping out. Rattle Snakes are everywhere at my favorite fishing spots this year.

Hi Nick. Would this reel (4000) be suitable for light method feeder fishing (30 gr max weight)? Is it durable? It feels surprisingly sturdy, the drag is nice, perfect gear ratio, I had the opportunity to have it in hands today in a tackle shop. Thanks!

Just wondering, any reason you're not using braid in hairy small rivers like this or is it just a preference? Only because I've been eyeing up a similar situation near me and wondering which suits it better
@Lifeonthebank2 жыл бұрын
I use braid sometimes when I ledgering on the deck but here I’m freelining meat. The line is potentially up in the water sometimes and I therefore prefer mono / fluorocarbon 👍👍
@dannyf27463 жыл бұрын
Hi mate how do you see a bite on this method?
@Lifeonthebank3 жыл бұрын
I hold the line and it tightens up in my hand, often nearly ripping the rod away from me!! 👍
@jangojango48234 жыл бұрын
Another great watch Nick, really enjoyed that. Rolling is my absolute favourite method (or should I say was before I developed severe dexterity issues). I would travel every week after work from the east of London over to the Kennet on a Friday evening ( nightmare journey!) and fish 5 or six hours with multiple catches of between 5 and 30 fish being the norm ( the fishing really was that good). I loved the method as it’s so mobile and opportunist and suits busy lifestyles. Personally I found braid far superior to braid ( 10lb Herculine micro-braid being my choice). Coupled with a soft one pound test curve rod, small reel and a debarbed size 4 continental boilie hook with a few shot pinched onto fine silicon I had the perfect set up ( plus a net and mat of course). Bait wise;- meat was good but halved, raw cheap frozen sausages were far superior. Believe me they absolutely love em’ Unfortunately predation has altered the eco system on many smaller rivers including the Kennet and sadly the minimal remaining head of fish would no longer make the method viable (even I could still feel the bites!). I’m familiar with the lovely little stretch you are on and just hope it doesn’t get wiped out like most other once rivers seem to have. All the best, well done and keep em coming 👋
@Lifeonthebank4 жыл бұрын
Jango Jango excellent comments and tips! Would never have considered raw sausage. Yes, I do worry about our rivers. Lots of lakes are taking measures to protect their stock but it’s pretty much impossible on our rivers. Thanks for watching the videos mate. 👍🎣
@jangojango48234 жыл бұрын
I’d certainly say give the sausages a try. The cheap ones from the frozen counter are best. Cut them in half and take them to the river frozen to keep them firm (they soon thaw.out) I make my own large baiting needles and pull the Sausage through with the hook at the non cut end. ( when they’re being cagey often in slack water it stops the fish sucking the meat out without taking the hook).

Just started to watch your video's nice fresh approach considering how many are doing this on you tube, do you work for korum? Have just invested in the all rounder rod mainly for roving on the river Wey, not quite got the right reel to suit it yet, whats the reel in this video, have seen in your other videos, looks very competent and might work for this rod.

@Lifeonthebank4 жыл бұрын
They are very good mate. Personally I use the 10ft for this type of river fishing. The extra length helps you fish over marginal growth. Also Chub always try and do you in the edge. The extra length helps bring them out the edge and back into the main river. The 8ft is a fantastic stalking rod for carp on the lakes 👍

This isn't exactly rolling meat tactics us it? Free lining & light legering with shot is basically what that's about. Rolling meat is what Ray Waltons rekowned to do...
@colinlazell86063 жыл бұрын
You’re not really rolling meat a la Ray Walton but more free lining
@Lifeonthebank3 жыл бұрын
Well, it’s rolling along the deck a lot of the time, sometimes bail arm open. Sometimes it comes to rest if there’s little flow.
