Rip is one of my heros - about a year and a half ago I discovered Starting Strength - I literally struggled with an open bar squat - mostly a mobility issue but weakness, too. Today I squatted 200 with an SSB and rack lifted 365 - not bad for a guy who's 60 in a month and a week!

Coach Rippetoe pointed out something I knew but didn't know. People who are not naturally good at things make better teachers then those who dont. I prefer to hire people who have made mistakes then those who didn't. Part because I know they are honest and part because they can explain things better.

Mark is a natural educator. If I got the 3 wish genie I swear to God it would be for there to be another Rippetoe lifetime for him to open a series of schools broadening and applying his educational doctrine across not just lifting, but in all subjects. And then I would go live in the state whose kids he was teaching. That, my friends, would be Valhalla.

My education is in mathematics and Rip is absolutely correct -- the best people to *do* math are the talented experts; the best people to *teach* the math are TA's who, just a few semesters ago, were themselves struggling with the material they are now teaching. Also, look at the very best boxing trainers. They all laced-up gloves at some but never made a splash in the ring.

I boxed for 8 years. My best coaches were the coaches that had the most success in boxing. They were so good that they couldn't understand people that didn't immediately understand a concept.

The problem with strength training in baseball is that they play 162 games a year. If they played less games, the athletes could more afford to get bigger and stronger. It would be like the difference between a marathon runner and a sprinter. Can you imagine how different the athletes would look if they only played say 20 games? I'm not saying it would be a financially lucrative thing to do, but you'd have some very entertaining baseball!

Rip really loves the sound of his own voice. According to Rip, the way baseball players practice is to hit a 5 Oz ball thrown from 66’6” away. Meanwhile, they hit batting practice (which are balls thrown from closer at less velocity, the6 do drills where balls ge5 tossed from the side and they even hit a stationary ball off a tee. The guy likes to sound like an authority on everything and he has no damn idea what he is talking about.

And that shall be his undoing.... Look, the two factor model works, even if they play around with different curves and some such in Baseball. He doesn't pretend to be a Baseball trainer, he just was using this as an analogy. I see it all the time in track and field.

@frankd87742 ай бұрын
@@ello_o-n3t Did that strength book discuss how baseball players practice or are you the clown carrying on? Rip knows how to strength train mostly inexperienced lifters to do the lifts set out in his books. They aren't even about how to get the most strong, because by Rip's own admission, that isn't his target audience and he doesn't care about those people. They certainly are in now way about sport specific training like learning how to hit a baseball, which Rip has never done but still talks like he knows how to do it and nobody else knows what they are doing. Jesus Christ read your comment and he is too busy right now to deal with that kind of nonsense.

Have to say that i really enjoyed the content, but hearing the host whispering “ i like that, i like that..” gets really annoying and distractive. Same as laughter outbursts.totally random. Whats more-when it happens as a reaction to Rip disagreeing with your previous argument, hearing “exactly” or “ i know, i know” right after-thats totally weird.
