Acclaimed as a pianist of "exceptional breadth" whose "spirited, flawless performance stemmed from the very depth of his soul" (Estes Park News), Canadian-born pianist Kevin Ahfat is an artist recognized for his deeply passionate and highly compelling performances, possessing "a balanced mix of expressiveness and virtuosity" (Musical America). He has performed both as solo and chamber artist in multiple venues across the United States, and has appeared with numerous orchestras including the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra and the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra.
Mr. Ahfat has garnered numerous awards in many national and international competitions, among those being the Silver Medal at the 5¬th Schimmel International Piano Competition, First Prize in the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition and top prizes at the IIYM (Finalist), Arthur Fraser (Second Prize) and Eastman (Best Performance of a Contemporary Work) international piano competitions. Mr. Ahfat was recently named the winner of the 2013 Juilliard Concerto Competition, and subsequently debuted with Barber's Piano Concerto, Op. 38 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall with the Juilliard Orchestra under Maestro Jeffrey Milarsky.
Mr. Ahfat has spent summers working with numerous artists such as Arie Vardi, Andrea Bonatta, Tamás Ungár, Bernd Goetzke and Meng-Chieh Liu at the Bowdoin International, PianoTexas and Colorado International festivals. He has performed for numerous world-renowned artists including Leon Fleisher, Olga Kern, Richard Goode and Dmitri Alexeev, and, as chamber artist, has coached with Joseph Lin, Seymour Lipkin and Alan Kay.
Currently, Mr. Ahfat is continuing his studies at The Juilliard School in New York City under the tutelage of Mr. Choong-Mo Kang after having previously worked in the studio of Dr. Lei Weng in Colorado. At Juilliard, Mr. Ahfat holds the Alton Jones Memorial Scholarship and the Rhea Cloe and Carl Cloe Memorial Scholarship. He is a 2013-14 Artist of the Young Musicians Foundation of Colorado, and is especially grateful for their support.
