Was prescribed valbazen here in Canada for tape. Didn’t work. Been using garlic cloves, DE and pumpkin seeds, plus rotation every 2 days. Copper sulphate for barbers pole. The worms do not become immune. Learned from Tim at Linessa Farms on KZbin.

Large animal assistant from the US here (Oregon), barber pole is very prevalent in our area

We have been using Levamisole which has to be compounded at a veterinary pharmacy. It is effective but very expensive and seems to be hard on the goats. Closantel was less expensive and worked just fine but we can no longer get it. It takes forever for our government to approve drugs for small ruminants. You have so many more options in the UK. Thank you for making these videos. I always learn something new.

Greetings from Australia! What did you mean by not treating animals with only mild symptoms if you are treating the rest of the herd? Wouldn't you want to make sure there were no vectors for worms to hide once you drench?

Long story boring: refugia. You’re not going to eradicate the worms so better to maintain a small population of worms susceptible to the major drenches.

Me again....do you know how long H contortus lives on in the abomasum? Does it die after it lays its eggs or does it live on for weeks/months/ years, continuing to lay more eggs? TIA 😊

In Ontario Canada, just had a lamb die from Barber pole . Vet came , recommended ivomec drench and multivitamins/thiamine injectable gor 4 days. Hopefully the lamb vome out alive 😢😢

Most Barber Pole have developed a resistance to Ivomec. Levamasole drench (Prohibit) is working for us in NY State.

We ended up losing 3 ewes and 4 lambs. We have dorper and katahdin. Only the dorper were affected. Ended up using 2 courses of valbazen. Really expensive. After the second fecal count i found large numbers of tapeworm as well. Lesson learned, when buying a new flock. Fecal count and treat before picking them up or have a dry lot to isolate them before contaminating your land. I knew this from owning horses. Not sure why i didn't assume to do the same with any other livestock. Live and learn.

Valbazen is no longer effective against barber pole worms in most of North America. It should have eliminated most of the tape worms though. @@jessicakennedy2332
