Here's some tips. Only tip barbers that work for someone else. If the barber/stylist/etc works for themselves (rent a chaiir or booth) they should not expect a tip. Barbers need charge accordingly for the market that they are in. Barbers need charge what they think they are worth.

As a hairstylist, I agreed with most of what they said. I think for me, I would not advise going to an untrained barber or stylist. Part of licensing is being trained in proper sanitation, technique, biology and common skin hair and nails medical conditions to better care for clients.

I never understood why barbers need tip. I still tip bc you basically have to, but don’t they set their price? So why not just charge the full price that you need with the tip included? I never understand tipping in general tbh.

A lot of barbers don’t set their own prices, at least in my area. Shop owners set their prices and then the barbers pay a commission( % of what they make) or a determined rent at the end of the week. Since we don’t make hourly rates, we only make what comes through the door. When a chunk of that service is paid to our boss, the tip really helps us out. Some barbers depend on tips depending on the price of the services in their shop. It’s really an always appreciated but never expected sorta thing to me personally. As far as tipping in general, most industries that accept tips usually don’t make hourly rates or make under minimum wage and depend on them just to make a living wage. You see this a lot with severs/people in the restaurant industry especially! Sometimes a tip can seem extra or unnecessary but you never know how much you’re paying actually goes to the employees and what’s just going to the owner/corporation! Hope this clears things up.

what also makes a bad barber is when you set up an appointment at 4:00pm and you get there 10 mins early and you thinkin 4:00pm my ass gon sit on that damn chair. NOPE!!! you be waiting for like 30 mins to an hour because home boy wayyyyy behind on the people hair cut, coming in all late to his early appointments and then he would charge you out the ass like I'm talking like 50-60 bucks for a damn line up. I'm glad I changed my barber.

I"m off Black barbers now...they have you waiting even with an appointment, exploit their prices, be late af...and expect you to just sit there and wait all day...while they take their "sedentary ass" time. Clearly I"m still mad at my ex barber. lol. I'll get over it when I find someone new. lol.
