@CJ-nr4jn5 жыл бұрын
2PhoneShawty It was Mrs. Park’s association with the NAACP, her complexion and her age. Claudette was just a teenager at the time...leaders felt it’d make more of an impact using Rosa Parks and they felt that white people would not react so harshly toward her as opposed to a younger, dark-skinned pregnant teen...didn’t think she was reliable to really spark change although she eventually testified in the trial. But in school they just tell you that Rosa Parks did it

@uni : Taken out of context, it would be upsetting to people who revere these important personages of our history. But IN context, it shows that there is a certain amount of naivete and a certain amount of pragmatism to what he says. Now, what they show is that in the barbershop, it is a safe place to be irreverent, ignorant, revolting, but one should be allowed to be honest and without fear of being judged. We know Eddie's take is a wow moment and I can see where Mr. Lee objected. But overall I can appreciate the unique fabric of friends and their ability to arouse reaction. I had a World Contemporary Problems teacher who would come into class and say something outrageous, and the argument for classmates would begin. It wasn't that he believed what he said (and in those days it could be politically incorrect), but he used it to instill the ability to think and communicate. It was effective. All that said, Mr. Lee is a wonderful director and a person whose intellect has made the world a better place. (Speilberg hated Life is Beautiful. That is another story.)
@johnwesley51192 жыл бұрын
@@daveluttinen2547 Eddie’s statement, itself, is void of context. Rosa Parks just sat down? If you’re mindful of the environment she was in, you’d know she risked her livelihood, and her life.
@daveluttinen25472 жыл бұрын
@@johnwesley5119 I completely understand the risks she was taking doing what she did and I am not saying Eddie was right. But as he said, it was a barbershop and people can spout whatever they want because it should be a safe place, even if it is ignorant or devoid of context. I was terribly ostracized for having a black friend in junior high school - I didn't see him being any different but the community I was in apparently did. That combined with meanness and hormones of that age group.

15 year old Claudette Colvin was the first who refuse to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, before Rosa Parks did. She also went to jail for not giving up her seat. The NAACP was going to go with Claudette Calvin until she got pregnant out of wedlock. The whole Rosa Parks bus thing was planned.

Damn you can't even talk this way now a days without someone pulling out their phone, posting ones conversation on social media and causing an uproar because complete strangers were hurt by the comments!
