This is one of the greatest Barbershop performances of all time. It’s up there with Cuddle Up, Lucky Old Sun, etc. for me. Plain, simple Barbershop sung by the best quartet currently singing. Really really tough to beat

The decade of the new millennium saw some of the greatest international quartets to ever grace the stage. Can't say I've really cared for the last quartets the past few years, or during the 90s (at least after 1993). Platinum, Michigan Jake, Realtime, Vocal Spectrum, Max Q, Crossroads, Powerplay. The only quartets that I really didn't care for were Four Voices and Gotcha.

something so American culture, it should have the full support of the government and it saddens me that it doesn't but it saddens me more to see the total collected so far only $1610 dollars today january 1 I would think that something like this should already have a collection of at least $100,000 It is incredible that societies that sponsor war and other bad things do have full support and move hundreds of millions of dollars I wish I had a lot of money to support something like this I am a musician, guitarist and singer ... and of course I love vocal harmony and even more of this type, I am a fan of a cappella groups It is sad to see how in these times of crisis the governments are more concerned with financing the war than culture Maybe one day the human being will understand that the only beautiful thing that remains as a trace of our existence is culture and in particular music. I hope that the BHS can continue to exist and give to the world this beautiful art of a cappella harmonic singing.

Nearly perfect rendition . . . except at 1:32 where the lead takes the solo, "It's you in the sunrise . . .". I'm probably too used to hearing the Bills version where all four men sing that line. Also, I think it was a big mistake for him to go lower on "-rise." Again, I'm probably just used to the original version where "sun-" and "-rise" are the same note. Sounds much better that way, imo. This small section of Vocal Spectrum's version sounds very wrong, but they do a beautiful job otherwise.

This is a Beautiful song, and done very well. Only one problem! 3:35. Why stop the song and say "Barbershop". To me that is worst thing you can do. @@karenreese4910 Your comment is reinforcing my point. Let the moment happen. Take the pause. Awesome. To me saying "Barbershop" takes away from the moment. It would be the same if a lead singer holding out a high note in a metal band, then stating "that's Heavy Metal". You don't have to say it. Let the song and performance make the moment.
@FanofCrash25
@FanofCrash25 3 жыл бұрын
@@mtrithart lol as a performer you have to be able to play along with the audience, and in this moment the crowd wanted to cheer and have fun. Not a serious environment. That audience has been listening to groups perform in a competition setting, where they most definitely would not have done that. In this moment, VS doesn't break the pause, the audience does, and in a way that they don't normally do. So VS briefly plays off of that in a way that validates them. Like the audience cheers to say "Hey, we really like barbershop!" and they respond with "Hey, we like barbershop too!"

if my opinion is worth anything ( and it isn't) this is an example of incredible vocal craft, and not a good performance because it's not true to the song. The song was used as a vehicle for harmonic gymnastics, but during it all, I forgot the gentle, loving message of the song. Almost insulting to the song. Maybe that's not scored, but I think it should be.

Greg, you and I must have listened to two different recordings. I ask you to listen again from the chorus and feel how they caress the words and the music. Putting Jonny Moroni's aside to the side (which only was done in response to audience reaction), they delivered one of the most heartfelt versions of the song you'll ever hear. It may not be the interpretation you heard in the Music Man, but remember that this song wasn't written in the 1890s but in the 1950s, so it's not truly a period piece. I can picture this being sung to a girl with the feeling that they brought to the song and watching her break down in tears. Hell, I just about cried when I heard it and *that*, my friend, is the power of music to move us, to evoke an emotion. Thank you, Vocal Spectrum, for one of the best songs I've ever heard. :D
