This is more entertaining and difficult then when singing songs as they are to be sung straight thru from start to finish. These guys obviously work very hard at their craft so that all their interjections are coordinated and run smoothly in a timely manner and to fit it in amongst a song that you have to be able to just jump right back into as if you never stopped singing in the first place is admirable. Sebastian Opara I want to see them win and am a believer that the judging criteria need to be updated. That said, they didn’t deserve to win this year. I enjoy them more than most other quarters and want them to medal, especially since I don’t particularly enjoy some of the quarters that have been medaling for years, but they still do need to work on those technical issues just like any quartet out there. Just look at FRED. FRED was great at comedy too (including comedy at the expense of the judges) and won because they were technically solid, solid to the point of winning against Platinum in 99. Lyrics: [Intro] Every single day, rehearse and never play We find that if we don't, the judges surely say: "You missed a pickup there!" "You clearly need more air!" "Tune it!" "Sing through it!" "You blew it!" "No go!" . [Pre-Verse 1: Jackson, *Jake*] I got it! (*What have you got?*) Isn't it obvious, Jake? (*I literally have absolutely no idea what it could be, you've given me very little context!*) I gave you an eight-bar intro, that should've been plenty! (*We've been through this, Ryan needs at least 16 bars or he gets lost!*) W-w-wait, but you're the one who asked? (*Yeah, I was asking for Ryan!*) *He is extremely shy, and occasionally... hungry.* My master plan! You see: . [Verse 1] In every contest to be won, there is an element of fun You find the fun, then snap! A 93! (Golly, gee!) Yet every chord you try to sing, they never really ring Sing free-- in key!-- It's very clear to see... That... . [Bridge to Verse 2: Jake] Hey! Remember, Jackson, we've been working on all three categories of our judging system! Right? So I can think of no-one better to kick this whole thing off than our very own singing judge candidate: Ryan! Take it away, buddy! . [Verse 2] When you croon, people shudder, and our singing score goes down Our singing score goes dow-own Singing score goes down Every word that you utter makes our singing score go down We need more lead height, post-haste! . [Bridge to Verse 3: Joey] You see, the joke here is that we could score a lot higher in singing If only Jackson was just... better Little do these guys know, I've been an awful singer for years! Allow me to demonstrate! (sung) Ya-ha-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a, ha-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a, Ya-ha-a-a-a! . [Verse 3] A quartet trying to be the best has very little time to rest They're practicing their authenticity (Now I see) Quite intent in their pursuit To find a joke that's quite a hoot Sometimes, it's best, to settle with a toot! (*toot*) . Just a crude sense of humor helps the performance score go down The performance score go dow-own Performance score go brown Just a skewed bit of humor makes the performance score go down Flush the points right down the drain! . [Verse 4] In every barbershop arrangement, opportunities abound Just waiting for their moment to be found (Look around) So if you need a holy grail Just call on Aaron Dale! And hence (And hence) You'll find (You'll find) It's perfectly designed! . [Tenor solo] Ha, ah-ah-ah-ah! (Don't do it, Joe!) Ho oh! (You're not Julie Andrews!) Oh-oh-oh-woah! (Aaaaah!) (Spoken) Glad you guys could keep up with me! 'Cause I know exactly what we need to do to score more points in the music category. (Uh-huh!) **Exactly** what we need to do to score more points in the music category . [Verse 5a] If the song and arrangement as performed lacks a sensitive handling of musical elements such as melody, harmony, and embellishments indicative of the barbershop style, the music score goes down The music score goes dow-own Music score goes down If the song and arrangement as performed lacks a sensitive handling of musical elements such as melody, harmony, and embellishments indicative of the barbershop style Which can briefly be described as a style of unaccompanied vocal music, characterised by constant 4-part chords for every melody not of primarily homo-rythmic texture! . [Spoken: Joey, *Jackson*] Whoo! Look! The music judges are salivating! *No, they're-they're just drooling.* Oh . [Verse 5b] Then the music score goes down In the most delightful way! . And though we've learned a thing or two We still don't know what to do The Newfangled Four! . [Outro] Hope you had some fun This song is almost done So now we'll get off the stage!

These guys are getting better each year. Their songs, their singing and their humour. I dont want them to win because they come up with very cleverly written stuff. The lyrics (mostly, except this one) scan beautifully as if what they are singing was the original lyric! They are working harder than most other quartets (by choice), they mostly sing as well as any of the top 5 quartets so thats cool. However the comedic element - timing & sarcasm is tricky and very hard to do. Added and appropriate movement ALL MUCH more than any other 'stand and deliver' quartet is offering. Some of it might be a bit risque for a number of people but its all mostly in good fun. So, by my estimation they are working 25% (Jim's numbers) harder than most. I give them kudos for this. Stylistically its not mainstream contest so it will take a while for the system to come around. One fine day these guys will win and me thinks it will be one of the most popular wins of this century! I hope they dont win for a while because I am absolutely loving almost (didnt like arr. of never gonna give you up this year) everything they do. Keep it up lads. See, if you're a purist, you can nit pick their performance. But for us rubes in the cheap seats, these guys are AWESOME!! They are the barbershop version of the Canadian Brass, Victor Borge, or the Harlem Globetrotters. I wouldn't pay money for a 2 hour show of strictly barbershop. Some folks would. But I would *happily pay money for these guys, knowing there would be great music, jokes, and camaraderie. I would NOT be going home thinking about missed pickups, or that dissonance that didn't resolve. I would go home thinking I had a great time, and marveling at the sheer talent these guys have. I'm musically ignorant, you say? Meh. Probably. I play three instruments, and am learning a fourth. I've played in the orchestra, and the marching band. I've sung with choirs, done a little tiny bit of madrigal group singing, and taught music to little peoples. I can't read Alto clef. So yes, I'm not a musician. But I know what I like. And I love them! ❤

They might not be the judges favourite but they are easily the internet’s favourite. The view numbers of these guys compared to every other group proves it.

"no the judges are just drooling" Wow, absolutely savage no wonder they didn't get first for this masterpiece. They hurt the judges feelings.

Are there actually people who don't think Jackson is a good lead? Is this a real thing?

Probably, but they're missing half a brain and a music score (of both kinds).

It's a gag, just like in Jackson (Gaston Parody)

@@inverse2000 It doesn't just need to be a gag. Even if you're the best at something in the world, believing yourself to be bad at it can help you stay grounded with a healthy sense of humility.

If the song and arrangement as performed lacks a sensitive handling of musical elements such as melody, harmony, and embellishments indicative of the barbershop style...which can briefly be defined as a style of unaccompanied vocal music characterized by consonant 4-part chords for every melody not in a primarily homo-rhythmic texture... then the music score goes down!

Wow! As an old Adeline quartet lead in several international competitions, I wish I could shake your hands and say “BRAVO”! You should have gold on right now! (But they really make you work for it , don’t they!). Currently I have spent 24 hrs. Binge watching you! Love everything you do, and great stage presence! Keep up the good work!

I don't even know how those guys came up in my feed - never in my life looked up barbershop quartets. But man, am I happy they did - until I saw them, I had no clue I was a major fan. Totally loving their vibe! Wish they'd tour in Europe too.
