That last game I was just waiting for dogao to transition into Longboats and retake water come Castle Age and it worked wonderfully. You just can't contest Viking Longboats.

Portuguese can counter longboats with caravell. Sad he didnt try it.

Of course you can. Vikings and their longboats are very strong but you can def. contest them with other great water civs.

Since you guys were talking about Vikings- I’m curious, does the plus one extra attack in imp make up for the DPS losses from missing thumb ring? In Another words Did the old Viking arbalest have more, less, or the same DPS As the new ones?

Depends on armor of units they're fighting against. Vs high armor targets which still get punched through, +1 attack is better. Main issue is, old Vikings were picking up Thumb Ring on the way to Imperial Age and had really powerful Arbalest timing attack, usually while opponent was still in castle age. New Vikings simply have weak arbs that may only get +1 attack very very late and it's really expensive too.

spoiler . . . last game insane, I thought it was a civ win for slapody, best game of the series, and barbetacos holding with just 2 armies while dogao went for long boat raiding, insane

The civ advantage was always with Barbetacos in the last game. They had Briton archers against generic archers from Slam and Andy, plus a paladin civ pocket against a pocket stuck on cavaliers. It only looked dicey because they took the risk of conceding water in feudal and then having a player abandon land army to take water back later.
